Title: She wont start
Post by: Sam on 05 July 2011, 17:33
My k-jet 1.8 cab wont start; she has a working starter motor, strong spark at all plugs and fuel getting through. Any ideas?

Intake pipes come off, or split? or, not enough fuel pressure because the filter is blocked... corroded filler neck drops sh!t into the tank, and blocks fuel filter, common!

or............ waggle key in ignition when trying to start, this is also common when you have fuel and spark. the contacts on column can cause starting problems, engine will turn but not fire.
any alarm/immobilisor fitted? if so check wiring or connectors come loose

Ok, presume I flooded her the other night. Anyhow now I have the issue of she will start first time but if I dont rev her straight away and she dies I cannot start her again (unless I bump her). Any thoughts?

And it'll start every time if you do a rolling bump?

Fine, it idles a bit weird somtimes but thats about it. Dont know if the dizzy needs a twist or somthing but dont really wanna touch it whilst its running.

Might be worth checking everything against the timing marks though.

....this may not fix this issue but while you're doing a few bits I'd also advise that you find the fuel pump relay, take it out and get some sandpaper on the connections because a pound to a penny you'll have problems with this at some point. Do a search for fuel pump relay as I've done a few answers in this section with regards to that issue.

Reason I dont think it will help with this issue is that the fuel relay issue rears it's ugly head when the cars warm. It did make my old cab cut out while actually driving once and that was quite hairy.
