Title: boot popper issue
Post by: nikkiy9 on 04 July 2011, 20:32
hey guys, built my loom up for my boot popper, all the way throught the loom i get 12.8v until i connect it to the popper, the +ve feed then drops to 0.08v when i connected the popper directly from +ve on battery then to the earth it fires, has anyone got any idea as to why it's dropping 12.72v when wired up in the boot????

Are you running it through a relay.

Might be worth trying heavier duty wire.

the wire i'm using is exactly the same that i've used in the past for 130w spot lights and also for the fog lights i've fitted to the golf

Check its not earthing out in any tight spots like the rubber boot from body to tailgate or inside the tailgate itself.
I never used a relay as its only used for a millisecond.I just earthed the popper to the body ran a ignition switched live (15a fuse) to my switch. Then ran a single core feed to the rear.Jobs a gudn

The reason ive got a relay installed is for the rclick central locking kit as it supports a boot po0per on the key which needs switched in now and again
