Title: Mk 1 Golf GTi Cabriolet
Post by: flat4pete on 03 July 2011, 12:15
Hi my names pete i live in devon, fairly new to the golf scene as iv got two classic beetles and a t4.
iv just bought a mk1  golf gti cabrolet, that i plan to restore, its a b plate and looks pretty tidy.

when i was checking the car over, on the side of it there was a decal saying ''black special'', iv tried having a look round the web for a bit more information on this a cant really find anything on it.

Could anyone possible fill me in on what the decal means becuase im stumped???

They made a Black Edition in 85 and 86. Came with Montego black metallic paint, black interior with white stripes and either tarantula (http://cabby-info.com/images/Wheels/Tarantula.gif) or zandvoort wheels (http://cabby-info.com/images/Wheels/Zandvoort1.gif)

there ya go a man who knows his stuff, check out the paint code if you can find the build sticker on your car to see if it matches what komenda says, b reg would be a 84/85 so year is there abouts.
'black special' still sounds like its been added ala chav tho

If it is a Black Edition, then not very many. As for how many that exactly is, I wouldn't know where to start short of sending a letter to Volkwagen.

According to this http://howmanyleft.co.uk/vehicle/volkswagen_golf_cabriolet only 11 cars for 85/86 are on the road in the UK.

My Black Edtion GTi, C reg, 86 , I know the wheels are wrong but P-sl*ts ( Now with the center caps) is the way I roll
It came with BBS RA on which are finding there way to one of my other cars. The seats are wrecked and are currently getting replaced with black leather / red piping
I keep meaning to check the paint code, must do that to touch up the bumpers

Oh and it now sports the correct grill which took a day out of my life to refurbish

Everything on the site to be honest. 2 golf cabs registered in 2010 are sorn?...  Here http://howmanyleft.co.uk/vehicle/volkswagen_golf_gti there are more 1983 golf sorned than any other, does this include early mk2?. it makes my year look like the least rare car ever, early mk2s are almost extinct until 89-90...

That's kind of what I was getting at when I was asking what they were made of...  Easier to reproduce then. :afro:  wonder if I could get plastic badges replicated cheap enough............

What's the stuff in the link then, some kind of film?

Rivages were not fitted with stone chip foils, so they tend to suffer paint loss on rear arch covers.
Confusing with the Mk's as there is no MK2 Cabby it went straight to the MK3 shape later. The MK1 Cabby had a facelift at the same year time as the tin top, around 1988. It was given the big bumper or clipper kit.
They also did the all white edition too.

LOl deffo not.

Guy I retail stone foils etc on the MK1 OC and have supplied a few sets in clear without the dots on to other Rivage owners, so it shows the base colour through.
If you  fancy some just give me a shout.
The Guy who did the Rivage decals which were spot on has left the MK1 OC, which is a shame as he is a top man.
His Rivage is outstanding.

Your Rivage looks immaculate.

It's really good if your in the trade too and have some contacts and skills.
I repainted my bumpers etc in the back garden with rattle cans, as they were pretty poorly done before.
It turned our really well once I polished all the dead midges that were stuck in the paint  they just love the smell of paint.
The expensive quotes from the body shop were a bit heavy.
I have seen these detailers doing the work on you tube, it's amazing how some will come to your works car park and do it there.
very impressive.
