Title: Trying to fit Momo steering wheel
Post by: kagero465 on 02 July 2011, 19:29
Hey there,

I have a Momo corse steering wheel and a Mountney boss/hub/whatever. In the instructions with the hub it says to remove the splined bush before fitting the hub.

Problem is the splined bush doesn't want to come off!

Anyone done this operation before? I don't want to put heat on it. Or knock about too much.

If it's too big a deal, I'll just try and get my mone back and buy a Momo one.

Hope someone can help. How do I get pictures up?!

Cheers for reading.

Nick

when i did mine i struggled with it.
i ended up clamping a pair of mole grips on the collar then putting a bearing puller onto the steering columb and over the mole grips then pulled it off.

Easiest way is to hit the end of the column with a hammer (seriously!) and the collar pings off. IIRC there is a bolt that lightly clamps the collapsable part of the column that needs undoing first but its been a while since I did it to mine.

I personally dont like the idea of belting the steering column with a hammer, but it is telescopic (in case of an accident) so will take quite a beating. I tried the hammer and 3 legged puller methods on my old project and it still wouldnt come off

Me either!! However, I couldnt get a puller on there so the whacking stick got used instead lol.
