just got my hands on mint mk1 cabrio, now i think of changing out the engine for a 16v abf possibly with a view to running a bbm screw compressor coz i love that sound!!
just looking for advice here as i am more use to mk3s and mk2s with regards engine mounts etc
not doing the vr6 route for weight reasons, may do the 1.8t route but i really fancy the screw compressor to to annoy the neighbours!!!
any advice for which 16v (i am thinking abf tho) etc
cheers rich

On a cabby any high powered engine swap is going to leave you with some interesting crabbing.
However, the 16v route is probably the preferred route, but 1.8T if you want power.
-
I would say 16v is the way to go. 1.8T will be too front heavy.

are 20vt units actually that much heavier?
-
i would go for the abf on throttle bodies or for abf with turbo, 16vt makes very good power.
16v breathe better than the 1.8t from what ive read
i would really like a supercharged 16v just for the sound

Why, old tech now tbh, 2.0 16v or 1.8t are good choices.

Old tech in old cars get's my vote though.

Yes to a degree but G60's need lots of love and money to keep them going, something more modern is the better bet.

Suppose it depends how the cars used, if its a daily, then you have a point. I'f it's not, old skool all the way!

I agree with Wayne to a degree. Daily hacks are all about modern technology not to keep it as hassle free as possible.
However....
If it is a project (6month of the year) car and the owner is willing to lavish money at it pulling the charger off a frequent intervals to overhaul it then why not.
There isn't much that can beat the sound of some forced induction supercharger whine in my book.

Even mine wouldn't be happy to be a daily. As it's not one, if I had the money I would love to finish it off with a charger and i'd try and keep it on K-jet!
Maybe one day!
