Title: 16v brake pads
Post by: packardjc on 30 June 2011, 23:46
Ok I have a 16v P reg GTI, do I need 288 or 280 brake pads? Black Diamond say the change happened at 04/96 is all, seems a bit shifty. Any way I can tell which my car is?

am i wrong in thinking that the 8v and 16v are the same?

288 at the front and 280 on the rear? or have i just made that up?

very wrong.  288 discs were on the 16v after 96.  The VR6 also has 288.

the discs on the rear are a lot smaller than 280.

P reg should be 288, but I've heard of people having late cars with a mixture of early and late parts including the indicators. Rears will be 256.

Rears are 226 I believe, 256 was on mk4's but only the higher powered versions, I know mine is 256mm.

Steer clear of the black diamond pads - the company don't know their *rse from their elbow on the 16v brake pads

Both types listed are wrong. I bought a set and after 3 attempts they couldn't send me the right ones, and told me that later 16v's had the 280mm brakes despite them showing there was a change in 96.

Plus they also have a crap reputation performance and quality wise.

Better off getting yourself some oem ones from somewhere like Euro Car Parts or GSF.
