Hey all,
Ok just got my Golf GTD built end of May, now I thought it is now law to have DRL but within the convenience menu I can turn them off (it definitely works!)
Is this ok? will I get a ticket? I would like to keep them off as it looks better imho!
Cheers

Legal requirement to have the functionality but not to have them turned on (yet!!)
-
Thanks dude, off they will stay!

Yeah, switch 'em off or everyone will think you're in a hire car.

I've just turned mine back on, the auto lights aren't sensitive enough IMO.

Jim why not keep em off and just manually control the lights?

Because in manual mode they wont come to advertise the fact that you have been exceeding 87mph.

Ah, so that's why they came on the after day when it was bright sunlight

Do they then stay on?
I've found my lights come on like above even in bright light but no amount of switching from auto mode to manual switches them off.

They do stay on for quite a while. When we were bringing the car home for the first time, my wife was driving the Golf and for some reason the headlights came on on a quiet dual carriageway. They must have stayed on for a good 5 miles afterwards.
It's got me wondering, if they've come on during a spirited drive and you slow down for a roundabout, do the winking fog lights do their thing?

There has been plenty of threads here, rather old now though.
You could:
Turn them off via the MFD
Leave them on on MFD, and manually turn them off (for those who might speedy above 90mph)
Leave them on Auto, they will auto turn on after a few rounds of 90mph (approx) regardless of light/weather, but will revert back to Auto (i.e. off) when you have stopped at say lights etc.

Red
Red that doesn't seem to be the case. When my headlights have come on after some spirited driving, they stay on for what seems an eternity. Even switching them to off and then back to auto the headlights come back on. I've not been able to work out when they go back to being off again.
What makes matters worse is there isn't a visible light on the dash to say they are on, just a daft wee light on the actual light switch which isn't noticeable on a sunny day.
What I've started doing is putting the Nav on to the map with the setting that the screen goes to night colours when the lights are on but I've still not been able to work out when they switch back off!!

They should stay on until you have stopped the vehicle, then on auto they should go back to DRL's, mine does.
Or you can turn the dial to 'Off' so the DRL's will remain on only

To me DRLs are a total embarrassment.
I always think other Golf drivers don't know or don't care about them, mostly rentals I would say.
Never seen a GTI with DRLs on yet.......
Saab and Volvo have been doing it since the 70s.
On Auto:
The headlights come on if you go over 90mph and go off if you drive slowly for a while, can't remember exactly how slow and how long, it's in the handbook.

Cheers I'll have a look.
