Title: mk2 1600 ryder starter motor woes

Hi there,

Just about to fit the engine that I've built up for my 1600 ryder [1.8 gti head, mk3 bottom end, uprated cam etc] and last night i did a stupid  :embarassed:

In a rush to get the old block out I went a bit hard at the starter motor electrical connections and after 20 years of crud and road sludge flicking up the bloody nut was practically welded on. Hence the not altogether unsurprising result that I sheared the end off the starter motor  :shocked:

This leaves me without a starter motor so the question is, what is the starter motor that I require and any decent, quickish places that people would recommend me source one from. Will a starter motor off a gti fit? Sorry for the ignorance but I need the car back on the road and so a replacement soonish [and the right one in the first instance] is my priority!

Yes a GTI one will fit.
