Title: V5 replacement
Post by: maxp on 29 June 2011, 21:10
Im about to purchase a car off a chap who only sent the v5 off 10 days ago, leaving him with just the small slip the new owner has.

Ideally wanted to pick it up and do the deal tomorrow.

He suggested we go together to the DVLA tomorrow if it doesnt turn up, and that it is possible to transfer the car into my name there?

Can anyone confirm this as googling has just got me confused :S

Thanks

You will need to wait for it to arrive then change ownership.

As Already said, Once it comes back to him then it can be sent off again in your name, Just because he has the Green slip doesnt mean he has sent off for the log book.

Why is he selling the car so soon after buying it?

What is the scenario if theyve processed it, its now in his name but still in the post. Can we do anything at the dvla then?

Nope as he needs to sign it to confirm transfer of ownership.

Ring DVLA, Tell them you have bought the car & sent the log book off, Give them the reg & ask if its been processed as a change of keeper yet?

They wont tell you any more details but will say Yes or No if its been processed
