VW dealer making me mad. Car was in for service at beginning of May told dealer air-con not working. They said aircon gas low was needing a service at £70 so paid them and seemed ok. By end of week not working again took back to dealer when they told me compressor faulty , had to wait 4 weeks part on back order. New compressor fitted worked again for a week , took back to dealer today for aircon not working . Now they say it was not the compressor its the condenser with a hole in it . And the biggest shock its NOT UNDER WARRANTY because it was damaged with a stone from the road and comes with a repair bill of £500.00. So i now have a 18 month old car with no aircon . Phoned VW customer care and that was a waste of time. So thought i would let all you fellow VW owners .By the way got my £70 aircon service back . But lost a few hours out my life going back and forward to dealers that i will never get back.
Rab ( not a happy VW owner)

Ouch!
I take it they showed you the damage?
-
Yes they should me the Dye mark on the condenser through lower front grill .
-
To be fair to the dealer if its got a hole in it and its been damaged by a stone its hardly anyones fault, its just one of those things. I got a new bonnet sprayed and within a week got a chip from a stone on the motorway and a nice new knock on it. Thats life :(

A decent dealer would just have replaced it on the warranty it would`nt have cost them anything .IMO

The dealer is right though... It been caused by damage not a failed part. Why should VW pay for that? :undecided:

Sorry, but £500 would not be a goodwill gesture especially if it is not a failed part and more especially as VW is not a charity. It's pay up or heat up.

Superb, dahling.
See below.
My VW dealership is tops. They fully valeted the car to perfection. Waxed the Monza Shadows, shone the pipes, polished the paintwork, spruced the inside, etc., etc. Has a new car smell and looks showroom fresh. All FOC!!

or in laymans terms.
How much the dealer has fleased you for before and made money out of you they can look like they are your friend by 'helping' you out.
-
I'd go back and ask them if they would be able to move on the price if you have the work done there.
If not, price it up at an independent VW specialist - will be cheaper as the labour will be a big part of it.
Whereabouts are you based - somebody may know of a local specialist to you.

While we are on the subject of AC, I was strongly advised by my dealer to go for the additional AC service during the 2nd service, which is an additional £70-odd as not part of the £250 service plan deal. Not sure what the results would be if I didn't take it up, as mine is fast approaching it 2nd service, but I think I'll go for it just to be safe.
Just a heads up guys

Wouldn't bother unless the aircon is not working properly or its getting a bit smelly.
All they do is recharge and disinfect.
The air con in my mk4 was good for 5 years before it needed servicing.

Mine gets a little smelly (for approx 10 secs) after switching AC back off to fan. Do the pipes need a clean, like my local pub?
