Title: Air con related noise - disappears when you switch to econ
Post by: samhain1 on 25 June 2011, 22:02
A few weeks ago developed a noise you could hear at idle and if you switched the ac off or on to econ then the noise disappeared. Took the car to my vw specialist and they filled the compressor I think with oil (they filled something with oil) and also said there was about 25 grams of gas left in the system when there should be 525 grams. The noise has returned and I went to the vw garage today to get a new Pcv valve and the mechanic came out to hear noise. He said it sounds like a low gas noise?

Anyone agree with that?

I will take it back to see what thy say if it is low gass then I have a leak that will need fixed, if it is low gass why would that introduce a noise, I would have thought the ac would simply become inefficient rather than sound like it's going to break!!

AC Gas also has pag oil in it to lubricate the compressor so no gas will make the compressor more noisey

Car won't go in until next week I am hoping it's just low gas and a leak, they will put a dye through it to see where the leak is, otherwise if the compressor then an expensive bill awaits
