Title: mk4 1.4 any good ?

Heya folks, my brother is lookin for a cheap mk4 for his wife !

Going to look at a 1.4 16v mk4 tomorrow,low mileage looks clean enough , just wondering if there,s anythin to look out for on em ?

He knows its not gonna break any records speed wise , but thats not a concern really .

Any info is as always appreciated folks :)

Ive heard that the gearboxes are weak, so check for play, gear selection etc. I know my mk3 used to whine in reverse, Im not sure if that is still something to look out for on the mk4 boxes?!!

Gearboxes are weak plus make sure the engine has no rattles or smoke.

engines are weak my mate had i big ends knoking then had a new engine then the big ends started knockin again:wink:
