Title: Oil temprature?
Post by: Craigwilson on 24 June 2011, 23:19
What should the oil temprature normally be the mfa says it is usually about 100 little more when im driving it hard but when i swap the spade with the one on the vdo it says 130 why is this?

P.s. Why doesnt my water temp guage on the dash work.

What engine? My 8v gti sits at 94ish normally, up to 116 when thrashing it on a track

My 8v digi sits at around 90, goes up to 100 if I'm in traffic or driving a bit more 'enthusiastically'.

The water temp gauge on your clocks?

Oh, if yours is a digi, the water temp gauge won't be working because the black sensor in the plastic water housing at the front of the engine is knackered, they're cheap from gsf

Well my temprature is about right then on the dash but does anyone know why the vdo temprature guage reads 130 when its actually about 100.

Oh and ill get a replacement black temp sender i suspected it was that but i dont know the difference between the blue one and the black one.

Black one is for the dash gauge

Blue one is for the ECU

The vdo needs a different rate variable resistor (sensor) that's why you'll get two different readings.. You need to use a sensor rated to the vdo gauges for the vdo's, and the black coolant 8v or the small black collared m10 for a 16v dash temp gauge. 100 degs is fine on the oil, its what u need really for water to evaporate/separate from it
