Coming from a mk4 r32 a common problem was the car not having the latest ecu update from the dealer which made the car more drivable, is there one i should be looking at getting for the gti, if there is will it be negated by a remap anyway if i get one?
Cheers,
Mat

Get a VW dealer to check the chassis number and see if it needs an update. There have been a couple, but if it's been serviced at a main dealer they should of been done.

cheers chap, there have been 3 apparently, ecu, clutch i think and coilpacks, it's only missing the coilpacks so will get it book in

is this a free service by any chance? :undecided:

It is; well it should be
Best thing to do is ring VW with your chassis number and check; you may find your engine is up to date anyway

i dont think it is as it's a 53 plate (one of the oldest!!!) and everyone else with a 140 seems to get better mpg than me. i know i'll be after a remap soon anyway, but would be nce to have it sorted for the next 2 months

What you currently getting? If you've got an underlying problem then a remap won't cure it, it will make it worse

Has it ever been better than that or has it always been like it since you had the car?
