Well the new audi rs3 arrived today at work, I was the lucky one to pdi and carry out it's first road test, however I was disappointed with it inside is no different to a standard s3 but with the addition of the sport button, on road test I found it just like the ttrs but slower as the rs3 is only available in dsg, but it was still good to be the first one to spank it .

Ive seen it and wouldn't touch it with your's

Don't get me wrong. I wouldn't buy it, but if I had just dropped over £40k on a performance car and an ugly French hatchback destroyed me on a track day, I'd be wondering where my money went.

Think I would spec the Golf R than buy an A3 , looks nicer esp in rising blue

Yes I think its only available as a 5 door, which is a bit crap I think.

Make you right there overpriced , but then what else is around that can seriously compete for the money ?
-
MD has ordered one, he doesn't take delivery till September / October. CANT WAIT :D lol
-
It's an impressive car but there's a lot of better options I think. As you say the TTRS is slightly quicker but the biggest benefit for me of the TTRS is the looks (the RS3 just looks heavy).

Pretty valid point but there will always be something faster. Might as well buy the car you like.
-
Megane will be fast right up to the point where it self destructs, all fast french stuff does, my mother in law has a 207 thp and it has been nothing but trouble and is currently at the dealer having it's engine stripped for the 12th time
-
I had a Saxo diesel for 13 years and it was faultless apart from a leaky radiator near the end but that was due to a stone cracking it. Some French don't surrender so easily.
-
first car was a clio mk1 r reg never spent a penny on it apart from oil change and cam belt sold it to my mate he then sold it to his brother and he gave it to his mrs who is still using it absolute bomb proof engine in it and i was worried that it was french at the time lol i guess its luck of the draw
-
I saw a 1M on the back of a lorry going down the M1 the other night It looked the nuts!

-
Yes, all sportback's and dsg only also.

I find it hard to believe that anyone looking to drop £40k+ into an RS3 will even glance towards a Renault dealership or anything within, no matter how good it it perceived to be.
Someone looking to spend £40k+ on an RS Audi doesn't give a toss how quick or good handling a Megane is.
They will but the RS3 because it's impeccably built and easy to go very quickly in, with little effort....and I doubt too many buy them with trackday performance top of the list either.
-
Thats the colour my boss has ordered it in . . I think. He is getting some sort of grey, is there more than 1 grey?

My whole point about this car, and the 1M for that matter is that they are pointless. These brands within a brand are supposed to be the performance cars of the stable. As far as I can make out they are just tools to grab your willy and slap it on your mates forehead down the pub.
They have a whole A3 lineup to use and target a market with. The M brand and the RS brand should be reserved for true performance models, unfortunately now they are just bragging tools, and when you get down to it, not very good ones.

How so?
If you want something exquisitely built, practical enough for family use, and the next preformace steup up from an S3/Golf R whilst still being small enough to park in the average garage/parking space (try that in an A4/S4/RS4) then this is surely the perfect car?
The M3 has got big, and maybe there are those who don't want to be revving a v8 to 8000+RPM on the daily commute..so the smaller, more nimble 1M makes sense..I'd take one over a curent M3.
Want 4wd and the ability to use it in all weathers, yet still maintain M3/1M pace?
Buy an RS3.
I totally see the point. It's the pinnacle of the A3 range, coming with an engine not fitted to any other A3. It's a usable performance car..what's not to like?
-
the price
i agree its a great allrounder. would still take the 1m though

I still think £40k is nuts

The price and the reviews are the things not to like! Ive only ever read one really good review of an Audi and that was the RS4, the rest are just targetted at people who have zero passion for driving (which is fine if thats what your after!) or want a cruiser thats not a BMW/Merc and consequently they get panned left right and centre by any competition in terms of their driving qualities. Saying that, for 40k the last thing I would buy would be an audi, especially not a new one. Id be thinking 911 GT3 with the full interior pack and save some back for the inevitable running/serivicing costs and a few trackdays and an old diesel golf or 3 series for when you know your not going to get to play or you know you will look too flash to turn up in a 911 .

I suspect that's exactly what most Audi drivers want, bar V8 RS4 & R8 drivers.
Easy, usable, everyday performance.
If that's what you want - a fast car with no fuss or drama - then it hits the spot surely?

Hardly comparable though is it?
2 seat sportscar vs 5 seat family car. Oh, and on your average wet A or B road, the RS3 will be faster...my old mapped S3 was as quick up to jail speeds as my 911.
I'm not saying it would be the ideal choice for everyone...but if you only have one parking space, or one garage space, need a car to do the skip run, the school run and be fast point to point in any weather...then it hits the spot. A 911 does not.
Insurance/running costs also play a part too, I'm sure.

Just come back from the Goodwood Festival of Speed where they had both the RS3 and the BMW 1M - the Beemer wins by a mile.
