Title: Build Week Slippage / Advance
Post by: Mr_F on 24 June 2011, 15:23
Go on then guys, just been given my first build week of Wk 39, dealer said this is worst case and could possibly, just possibly slip forward.  Then allow 4 weeks after before I get the keys.

From your experiences how much difference was there between 1st build week quote and actual build week?

Mine was ordered Feb 2010, promised for the end of September 2010 and I got it 2nd July 2010. They told me I had the chance of a cancelled slot, which I grabbed - good luck!

Tbh.. If u get quoted a build week, its not likely to change atm. I ordered mine in sept 2010 and got it 8 and half months later. And when I did finally get a build date it didn't change from that.

I've got a week 31 build, but today have received a letter from VW saying that GTD / GTI & R models may be subject to further delay and my GTD could be involved.  Advised to ring the dealer for an update, so will do that asap.  Going to GTI International tomorrow.

Depends. When its locked its locked when its not its a best guess. DONT take it as gosbal as mine back in august 2009 moved lots of times adding months and months of delay. When i ordered mine i created a thread were others who ordered in the same month could list theirs.

Ordered a GTD DSG with sunroof on 30 Sept 2010. Promised a build date in January 2011 to be told that it may be March 2011.

In March 2011 given an estimated build date of 6 June 2011.  In May 2011 build date was confirmed as BW 27 (4 July 2011)
Car was actually built during week 23 (6 June 2011) and currently being shipped.

It should reach me by July so that will be 9 months+.  It is truly unbelievable!

Dealer is going to fit the storage pack before delivery as my order couldn't be changed without changing the overall cost.  I am hoping they do a top professional job thanks to all the info from the forum!!!!

Well well well not liking the 8 months figure much, but have just been informed I now have a week 32 build, bit of a difference to the original week 39.  I think mine's going to get shunted all over the shop now.

Though Week 32 will be awesome for a September 61 plate delivery.

Can,t understand how someone can order a Gtd in May and get it in 4 months and someone has to wait 8 months for another Gtd. Why does this happen, anybody know?

Cancelled orders, dealer allocation and the type of extras you spec and their availability can affect the order at the VW UK end.
Then there are things like factory re-tooling when model year specs change and holiday periods which tend to coincide to reduce factory down time.

I was expecting word on my GTD this week! (It was allegedly on build week 23, 6 June)  However my dealer has now given me the latest update.  The car was actually built at BW24 and released on 29 June.  It was only put on ship for Grimsby today.  It looks like 10+ months from order to delivery if I get it!!!!!  Am I unlucky or crazy?

This can't be good for VW let alone the customers!

Title: Re: Build Week Slippage / Advance

I have been told 4 hours to build.

As regards shipping, according to VW records my car was built during week commencing 13 June and was only put on the ship for Grimsby on Friday last the 8 July 2011.

Very Happy still, no mixed emotions other than should I have waited for a Mk7.

Bet you wish you'd ordered an R or even a proper sports car!
