just this week bought a gti, mky first mk5 golf so far, 12th golf in all :)
the engine cover is really wobbly, how do i remove it to see why it's wobbly as i don't want to swing off it and snap something
Cheers,

If you catch both sides and wiggle the cover up it should come off eventually. IIRC there are 4 mounts that it sits on. It can be fussy initially but keep going and it will pop off.

cheers jimp, thought it was the case but didnt want to break anything, it's as if it's only sat on 2 or 3 of the mounts, will discect later on :)

You do have to put a lot of pressure on the cover when replacing it. Try pushing down on each corner and see if anything pops in to place.

Bizzarly this happened to me recently when I bough a mk 5 gti. The cover was wobbly. When I prised it off one of the mountings was missing from the engine bay. I still can't understand why that would be the case. The VW garage says that previously some garage would have pilaged it to use on another car and so on, and never bothered their back side to replace.
The new bracket was about a tenner so all is well now
