Title: Sportline Cab Modifications - some advice please!! PICS UPLOADED
Post by: Sham on 07 April 2005, 17:01
Its time to bring the old cab out for summer, but I need to pay attention to some cosmetic styling.

First of all I would like to lower my car a little more at the front, currently sitting on 30mm springs the back sits far lower than front. Does anyone have a set of 40mm springs they want to sell? Or better still height adjustable suspension. My wheels have an ET33 offset which means they fill the arches so maybe adjustables would be best.

Secondly, I want to fit a performance back box , which ones are best or most popular? I donÂ’t want bags of noise! But a sweet (yet beefy) note and preferably a single oval pipe.

Finally, I have seen some smoked headlights advertised on ebay – has anyone bought a set? If yes, do they fit ok?

Any suggestions will be much appreciated, in the meantime Happy Dubbing!!

Here is how she looks at the moment -

the exhaust is a power flow system only 1 3/4" so it looks std but gives off one hell of a noise

Hi Sham.

At the moment my trusted garage are in the process of putting a 30mm Boge suspension set (shocks & springs) onto my 89 Clipper.

It came off an H reg Cab so in theory it should be a simple swap out but if they have any problems and can't fit it to the car due to rubbing and the Clipper kit etc then the shocks & springs are up for sale - £80.

If its any use to you, you can have first refusal - just let me know.

Phil

I remember going to the Club GTI meets when Velly first had the carbs fitted.

He took someone out in his cab up the duel carriageway and you could still hear him a couple of miles away  It sounded like a low flying aircraft in the area

Title: Re: Sportline Cab Modifications - some advice please!!
Post by: sportline_velly on 14 April 2005, 13:14
it depends on wot u want to do.

it then cost me about 500 quid to put the carbs on and all the extra bits like fuel pump etc and tuning.
but i have a 16v lump in mine

I just think the forum is really missing a thread on stages to tune your mk1 and the power increases you'll get.

Ive got no idea how much a 16v lump would cost, cost to install and then how much power i would expect :embarassed:
Title: Re: Sportline Cab Modifications - some advice please!!
Post by: sportline_velly on 15 April 2005, 08:37
1.8 KR 16v lump + gear box £250ish
you will need a 16v wiring conversion (from TSR) about £120
4 branch manifold £200 (TSR again)
(you may meed things like uprated mounts and a few other little things)
then all you need is for someone to fit it

power should be about 145 bhp-ish

If you wanted to spend a bit extra power the go for a 2.0 16v but u will pic up just the engine for about 300 quid

hope this helps

velly

and how obvious (for ins purposes) is the 16v lump

could never get away with it?

err...i think the pics can do the talking

8v

16v
(http://pic7.picturetrail.com/VOL190/1179511/2776802/33832413.jpg)

and if you added carbs to a 16v

For the record, i paid £430 full comp, protected n/c's and all mods inc 16v on carbs, LSD, 8" RM's etc

ok, so im 31 but still cheap IMO

Its very tempting. I could have it done while im away in America for two months in the summer

Would the person fitting it encounter many problems getting it to run smoothly? Just need to find someone to theoretically to fit it all.. paid of course

Post by: Sham on 21 April 2005, 21:57
yeah its lowered 30mm - but I have 45 profile tyres which creates a larger gap than standard 50 profile tyres. I'd love some coilovers but don't have the reddies.....may get dropped to 40 mm soon

Hi

thinking of selling the car soon but minus the wheels! I will keep them for a later vehicle unless I get desparate/or someone offers the right money. They are a rare German brand of alloy EXIP, 15 inch ET13. Toyo proxy's all roundthat have done 5000 miles. Feel free to make an offer!

sorry, forgot to ask, cud u tell me the tyre profile in those pics? the width od the wheel, the amount of tyre tread left on them, any scuffs/kerbing? Much appreciated, thanks in advance

Hi

will double check but I'm sure they are Et 33 (I made a mistake in the earlier posting). 15x7J tyre profile is 45. Tyres have excellent tread, I've only done 4-5000 miles on them - probably less as I had my other alloys on first. No scuffs really, I think there may be one blemish to th rear alloy. My car isn't lowered as much as yours but it will definitely catch rear arches - It catches if i go over nasty bumps or have someone in the back. These are an extremely rare alloy and look the part - would look meaner if I could afford coilovers! Anyway, I don't want to get you too excited as I may not part with them. To give you an idea of the value I paid £550 for them when tyres were brand new but they didn't have the original EXIP caps, I have sourced them from Germany and got all 4 now. But they are a sweet alloy
