Title: Valuation - GTD
Post by: Exonian on 22 June 2011, 20:52
A mate of mine has been offered a GTD off his lease company, 2011 11 plate, basic spec.
Sub 10k miles.
£22,000

Good, bad or ugly?

Andy, I think my mum's GTI on a 60 plate with bluetooth, Monza's etc was only 20,495 with 1.5k miles on it. I realise diesels have higher resale values but it seems a little steep?

I don't think GTD's have a higher resale that GTI's. The price depends massively on the number of doors and DSG. DSG and five doors go for more money

Autotrader Prices

DSG 5 door cheapest trade GTI is £21,795 - 09 Plate
Manual 3 door cheapest trader GTI is £19,000 - 59 plate

@ Dan; Your Mum got a bargain! Nice spec. Unlike the Leon FRs, the petrol and Diesel GTI/Ds seem to depreciate about the same but I wouldn't mind betting the GTD is a more popular second hand choice and may get the nod for better depreciation in years to come.

@ Jim; It's a standard manual one and only a few months old. Not a bargain by any means but a fair price? Hmmm

@ Steve; From what I gather the price is non negotiable and cash sale only.

@ Doc; You took your time noticing that!

Thanks all for your input
If it had xenons I think I'd have told him to buy it and bought it off him myself!!

Generally the supplying dealers have first dibs on buy backs from lease companies and they dont come very often. We have had 2 in the last 8 months standard cars.

In January I bought a May 2010 GTD with leather, xenons, cruise, touch-screen radio, bluetooth, 18" vancouvers and LED rear lights (supplied by dealer) with 10k miles on the clock for just under £23,000. I thought that was a good deal.

If you take the value of leather and xenons off that price, I would say you should push for another £1,500 off as a minimum.

It really pays to ask - I managed to negotiate the dealer down from £25,000 just by asking them to try harder.

You got a good deal. At the end of the day it all depends on how much money the dealer has in the car and what bonuses are tied into the deal. Years ago you'd easily get a deal for cash, but these days they don't seem interested in that, they want to flog you finance more than they do the actual car!
The one I posted up is direct from the leasing firm. I thought it sounded quite a good deal but there is no movement in the price on the car. I'm not interested in buying it but thought it sounded a good deal.
I would say try and find a cheaper 2011 Gtd..........
I can't find a cheaper 11 plate.
