Title: Insurance!
Post by: Heybatesy on 12 September 2003, 10:43
Morning,

Noticed the ugly subject of insurance reared it's head in a previous posting. Does anybody have any recommendations of brokers that can cover a modded (engine and suspension) Mk11 8V for mostly commuting but also for track days?

What insurance company is HIC and what is the web site address??

I'm only a little younger than you (28) and do well with Bell Direct. They charge very little extra for mods (and you can check the cost of mods on their online quote).  I'm paying about ?350 TPFT with full no claims on a 16v, but this is on the street in central london. Don't know about track day cover but they're helpful with most things.

HIC is Herts Insurance Company, but they dont have a web site. They quoted me ?440 for Fully comp with 4yrs NCB, 1 non-fault claim and track day cover (25 yr old). In the end though I went with Barry Grainger Ins broker (www.barrygrainger.force9.co.uk) and got fully comp for ?410. By the way thats on  a mk3 8v GTI

Check exactly what your getting regards hire cars and excess etc. Sometimes the cheapest isnt always the best. After a bad experience with a broker I know use directline.

Tried Budget and Elephant but both came back with high premiums, which I wasn't overerly impressed with especially as I already have a policy with elephant...
Went with HIC (cheers!) found them quick and helpful and staffed by like minded people, track day cover is included and came out at ?340 for a 150bhp MK2 GTI.

Which was nice.

Sod the Norwich Union, HIC quoted me happy!

I'm paying ?1014 fully comp for my '87 8v Gti.
I'm 21 with 0 NCB, sp30 and 1 claim in the last 3 years.
That's with AXA

I called them up today to tell them I had an alarm on there and mentioned wheels and mods. She added my 15's to the policy for no extra :D

I then asked about putting the later doors on (wing mirrors at the front instead of halfway down the door) and she said that was fine. As long as they're a direct replacement that's fine. I said it was hard getting parts so that was all I could get and she was ok with it :D Bargin. That covers my big bumpers, leccy recaro's, crystal lights, 4 bar single light grill too :D

Excellent.
