I found a nice 2003 Golf 150 GT TDI last week and we're off to collect it now, pics to follow.
One "posh" lady owner with full VW hist - should be good
But when I got there.....
Your all only right, the weather was crap just like the car from A B AUTOS LTD Tel: 07963 808882 / Tel: (01302) 881744 Address 5 Greens Road (a house on a residential street) DN7 4DE.
Here's a link to the advert: http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201123390037861/sort/priceasc/usedcars/fuel-type/diesel/maximum-mileage/up_to_100000_miles/model/golf/make/volkswagen/radius/1500/keywords/150%20one%20owner/postcode/wa141tf/page/1?logcode=p
Spoke to the guy on Monday and asked if there was any bad paint, scuffs, undue noises etc - the seller said the car was mint with FUll VW Service hist so I gave him a 100 quid dipper over the phone subject to the car being as described..... (9/10 in his words)
Go there, the rear bumper had a big scuff on it, the passenger door / wing had had a not so smart repair, another scuff on the pass side of the bumper plus it had had a front end at some point and the engine had a very strange rattle coming from it - could have been the A/C compressor on its way out.
The service history was anything but VW and it even had some very NON JTC600 stamps in there.
When I told him that it wasn't anything like as described he told me I was a timewaster and ran off onto his house.....
HSBC are taking my deposit money back as I type
Tops and bottoms AVOID AB AUTOS of Doncaster.
Here's more lies - he put this on the advert - "back on due to uncleared funds and lost deposit" which is incorrect - see below:
I didn't loose my deposit he refused to give it back - I'm in the process of getting my deposit back via HSBC
Unlceared funds - I think not

Bad luck mate.
Had similar once, looooong time ago when I ended up buying an ex taxi with a knackered odometer without realising! One owner, full service history, been round the world and back but clocks but it didn't show it and I didn't know..... Had loads of issues with it and it wasn't until I gave it a hardcore valet I realised it's history, found loads of business cards for a taxi rank behind the dash and the remains of the adapters for the meter when I tried to see what was up with the clocks!

Roger that, you just expect people to be as straight talking as you are

When buying a secondhand car? Are you completely mental?

Exactly. Trust no-one, especially anyone in the trade

It's how I operated - carbon cars not only refunded deposits but also offered customers their travelling expenses if the vehicle was not as described, never happend once as we were accurate
Still does btw
He's just a silly man - he must have know I wasn't going to put up with that after the questions I'd asked. Having said that he was very very red faced and was going redder by the second - drunk possibly? Would account for the lousy appraisal.

Just waiting for trading standards to open in Donny @ 9am
-
Great shame Doc!
It is a great shame that people are not open and honest!
-
Just waiting for trading standards to open in Donny @ 9am
Cool,
Answer from them is that I am entitled to a refund on two counts:
1. Distance selling regulations.
2. Sales of goods act as the car was not as described.
They also told me that I'm also covered by my VISA debit card to get a chargeback just on the distance selling part as apparently you can just change your mind at any point within 7 days of payment regadless of the sales of goods act.
When I get to the end of this I'll make a "how to" from the information I get.
BONUS ITEM - they register the trader details every time they a complaint for further investigation, they loved the pretend JCT600 stamp in the service book
I know it's only £100 quid but it's the fact the cheeky chap told me I was a timewaster when it was clearly him.

Yes it comes up with AVOID
Good for you, i've lost count of the amount of cars that i've looked at over the years that have 'mis-described' by a trader.
One even had the cheek to say that he wouldn't sell a car to me because it was too much hassle.
I asked too many questions you see
-
Only £100!.... Hark at you!
It's your money and he it took it off you while talking sh*t... You shouldn't have to pay for bullsh*t.

I went to university in Sheffield, I am in fact a resident of the Isle of Man. There are 2 beer tents on the promanade during TT week, the Bushy's one where Inspector Mark Britton was filmed and the "other" refereing to the other beer brewed on the IoM Okells.
There was a freestyle motorcross show on with backflips and whatnot and the commentator guy referred to one of the tricks as leprosy sick.
That is all

This guy also goes under BarrieCars and Barries Cars at Dunsville Doncaster, and after a brief chat with him I found out his name was Andy.
So Could AB Autos Ltd actually stand for And and Barrie?
Checking out a car later tonight.
Will keep you posted...
Also worth noting that if you check out the telephone numbers it comes up with different locations in around Doncaster - eg Dunsville, hatfield and also south Parade... the Barrie Cars address looks more legit, so may appear that one of the directors deals from home out side normal garage hours...

Also worth pointing out that Doncaster Trading Standards also approved them under their Barrie Cars name previously...

Consumer Chiefs Champion Car Dealers
A South Yorkshire scheme which recognises ‘good garages’ will applaud new members next week.
Doncaster Council’s Trading Standards Service will present new members of the South Yorkshire Trading Standards Service Motor Trade Partnership Scheme with membership certificates on Tuesday April 27.
The presentation, which will be held at the Mansion House, Doncaster at 10.00am, will recognise four new members of the Scheme, which was launched in September 2003.
The new members are:-
Hatfield Jeep - Wheatleyhall Road, Doncaster.
CEJ 3000 - Church Lane, Branton.
BMW - Wheatleyhall Road, Doncaster.
Barrie Cars - High Street, Dunsville.
The initiative has been developed by a partnership between all four South Yorkshire local authorities - Doncaster, Barnsley, Rotherham and Sheffield. The aim is to help consumers buying new and used vehicles from legitimate businesses, ensuring consumer satisfaction and reduce the number of complaints received by the Trading Standards service.
Robert Grice, Chief Trading Standards Officer, said: "The partnership creates a good working relationship with the motor trade and ensures that garages who adopt a responsible attitude to trading are recognised.
"Membership is conditional and businesses have their procedures and practices fully audited by Trading Standards on a regular basis. It provides additional consumer safeguards and is an excellent way for businesses to show that they are committed to fairness and honesty."
There are more than 74 members to date, each displaying the partnership logo.
