when i bought my golf gti a while ago i had the basic 17" alloys on, due to funds being tight at the time ,i decided to make the standard 17"s look like the black center monza style wheels !! here are a few pics of the stages of work .(http://i936.photobucket.com/albums/ad204/scuffbomb/IMAG0187.jpg) here is the wheel all rubbed down , and sprayed in moondust silver,(http://i936.photobucket.com/albums/ad204/scuffbomb/IMAG0189.jpg) then with 3m fine line tape, mask around inside edge for the black spray (http://i936.photobucket.com/albums/ad204/scuffbomb/IMAG0190.jpg) all sprayed up with matt black (http://i936.photobucket.com/albums/ad204/scuffbomb/IMAG0191.jpg) then peel off all the masking tape , followed by two coats of laquer !problem solved .i will never have any problems with these wheels whiteworm,or laquer peel or flacking !! the only way these wheels will mark is if i hit a curb(http://i936.photobucket.com/albums/ad204/scuffbomb/IMAG0194.jpg) finishing result !!

thanks !! bit of a pain to do !! masking up i mean !! thanks for the help kris fabia :wink: lol but well happy with the end result !! plus a guy who also owns a mk 5 gti who only bought a new set of monza ( but grey in the middle ) the other week,wants me to spray his the same ! coz he knows they will whiteworm after a while . you can not even tell that they are not a chrome finish when you look at them close up . :wink:

yeh these wheels can be a big problem !! the vw dealer i do work for are fed up of having to change these wheels under warrenty ! so when a car comes up to me thats for sale, they always tell me to referb them this way ! no comebacks then !! and they look exactly the same .your mate would be better off doing them this way ,coz loads of lads post on here that they have had theyre wheels polished but dont last that long .lol yeh you are fine with your wheels mate :wink:

I like them better than the original colours, they stand out much better.
Can't beat a bit of moondust silver :cool:
