Just got a price of £9.25 each per vented disc for my 16V from GSF.
Anyone used these discs? are they any good? sounds cheap to me :)
Cheers
-
Sounds good to me
Make sure they are of good quality tho, as I seem to remember a discussion regarding GFS
-
Cheap aren't they? I have to admit that I have used their brake discs and not had any problems.
-
I got my rear pads from GFS they wasnt there own brand, but they stop me fine.
They where pagid fast road pads by the way
-
I'm just waiting for Corin (GolfVR6) to provide input here..........talk about baiting him
-
I am only a innocent by stander
-
GSF have good offers on Brembo Max brake disc's. very good disc! so good that even i use them
-
yeah they are like 20 quid or something for some grooved ones!
-
Cheers guyz,
Can i use the standard pads on those Brembo's? and i take it that is £20 each £40 a pair?
Ta
-
nah i think its a pair im going down tomorrow to inquire and yeah i was gonna use standard pads till i get some greenstuff
-
I'm off down there too! will let you know, £20 for the pair, cpould be the same ones he qouted me with the vat :)
take care
-
they also do an inclusive offer on Brembo Max disc's and Pagid Fast Road Pads - so ask about that also
-
Thanks Gambit!
I am only going to replace the fronts for now, will this matter having the standards on the back? or should i change them all with the same?
ta
-
nah it wont make a difference. rears only make up about 20% of the total braking force anyhow. just keep std pads & disc's on the rears
-
Cheers mate :)
I am hoping that one of the existing disc's is warped, and that is the cause of the juderness when i come to a stop :) if not it cost more :) lol
-
did you ever get your rear wiper sorted? or just give up on it?
-
i had them on my 8v, , then got some drilled 1's wat cracked  the standed spec gsf 1s did job fine theo
-
Am 3000 miles into a set of GSF front discs on my 8V- all seems well so far. Last set were VAG and I haven't noticed any difference yet. Am using the standard Pagid front pads.
-
Good to know guyz thanks
Gambit- have not given up yet :) I am getting a second wiper stalk and see if that does the trick, i'll get that relay back to you ASAP
Cheers
-
I ended up just getting the stadard discs and pads - £36ish for the two sets of discs and pads, not bad :)
Any pointors on changing these, things to look out for?
also is this a good time to do the wheel bearings? i mean as i am down there is it an easy job?
cheers
-
No need to do the wheel bearing unless it is on its way out...........quite a big job as you need a hydraulic press to remove/refit it.
You'll probably need an impact driver to remove the screw that holds the disc on.........if you snap the head off don't worry as the wheel bolts are the primary method of securing the disc.........just more hassle aligning the bolt holes.
-
Cheers I did not realise it was such a big job :)
Sorry to sound dumb, but what is an impact driver?
I was planning on using a blowtouch on the stubborn bolts :) Should i replace the bolts? I need to get everything ready to do this :)
I did the wheel bearing on the rear of my old golf about 5 years ago, i don't remember it being a difficult job! just lts of grease :)
are the rears different?
-
Yeah the rears are taper bearings...........much easier. Fronts are interfearence fit straight bearings, to do it properly you really do need a press to push the bearing out.
-
I see :) thanks
So should i get new bolts for those front discs before i start hacking at them?
-

What bolts do you mean? You won't need new wheel bolts. Do you mean the single countersunk screw that holds the disc on? Sorry I meant to say, an impact driver is a tool that you put the screwdriver bit in and wack with a hammer to undo the screw. Here is one:-

Chances are if the screw won't come out, you'll snap the head off...........don't worry about it......the screw is merely there to prevent the disc turning on the hub. You can do with out it and its a lot more hassle than its worth trying to get the broken shank out.
-
Thanks for the info, learn something new everyday :)
I'll let you know how it goes :)
-
put some copper grease round the retaining screw next time you fit it, that way it wont seize
-
Yep, I use that stuff nearly everywhere..........saves a lot of hassle if you ever have to dismantle again
-
I use it also, thanks for the reminder :)
