Title: help my mk2 is driving me mad too!!
Post by: golfpin on 19 June 2011, 20:31
can anybody help please.
[hope this posted in correct place]
1988 Gti mk 2 K jettronic 1.8 8v car stopped suspect fuel pump relay/fusebox itself.
To get home ran hotwire to underside fuel pump got home. Since then all attempts to run engine results in it firing and dieing immediately.
Have tried two hi press pumps and checked lift pump and filters all ok.
Have K jetronic test kit  now cannot get more than 45 psi from either of hi press pumps one is almost new. Few days ago both pumps gave required 75 psi with 45 psi holding press.
Same symptom, fires and dies. This was with the correct 75 psi
Battery charge full. could it be voltage drop via hot wire? also suspect oneway valve in hi press pumps but both??
Am still running hotwire because fusebox and relay not available and not affordable in RSA Can system be rewired to bypass existing damaged fusebox. Any help suggestions appreciated Apologies to moderator if this in incorrect place please redirect if deemed necc. Thanks
