so what is the differance between a chip and a remap or are they the same power increase just a differant way of doing it? which would be better 4 my mk2 gti 8v with 2.0 bottom end?
-
A remap is better if available however yours will be chip only and the gains if any are small.
-
yours would be chip only. would not bother for a 5bhp increase.
-
why would mine b chip only cant i get it remapped then

Definitely not worth it, you wont even notice it, will be purely bragging rights

Because is has bog all electronic control on it. Concentrate on other things tbh.

A chip and remap are the same thing at end of the day, the software is getting edited (re calibrated / remapped) So a chip is a remap at the end of the day, its just then method used to get the remapped software on to the ecu. With a chip you have to open the ecu and remove the chip to write the new map to the ecu, then you have OBD remap which flashes the map via the OBD port in the car and no need to touch the ecu.

The chips are rubbish I got one and took it out same week smoothed engine buy no real difference on speed and it drank fuel :(

Rubjonny got good results with one, but that was on an abf. An ebay chip too.
-
I would avoid ebay chips tbh

Nothing wrong with the chips, Its all down to who writes the software which is burned on to the chip.. and its down to how good the engine is running, breathing, plugs/gaps and HT leads. Like Wayne said there are lots of BAD mapped chips floating around, on the other hand there are tuners who get it right and provide a good mapped chip.
You comment is off putting for forum members who are looking to have the mk3 mapped up, I have been chiptuning for close on to 15 years now and all my old skool chip tune customer have come back with newer cars to be tuned after having a good experience with a chip tune.
Where did you get your chip from? and do you know if the software was the correct code for your ecu or was it and all for one which? I say this because for most ecus there will be around 20+ software versions.
