So I'm taking part in my first hillclimb in a week's time and have aquired a set of Bridgestone Potenza RE55S semi slicks (225/45/17)
My question is what pressure should I run?
I've been told that 1bar would be enough, I've taken them for some testing but it seems that I do not get sufficient heat in them, side walls are warm but centres are still pretty cold in comparison and I've got dsg, so cant do your classic burnout to heat them up either

1 Bar (14.7psi) sounds really bloody low for a heavy car like yours. I have no better idea but try asking on the uphill racers forum (this is the second time ive pointed someone to that forum in a week, is everyone going hillclimbing suddely lol?).

Do it trial and error mate, if they don't get hot enough up the pressures

The problem being that its hard to do it trial and error at hillclimb events as you just dont have the track time to prove what you are doing is right, at least with a starting point you stand to cut a lot of development time out of the equation .
To the OP, out of interest, how are you checking the tyre temps and how soon after a run?

Start at factory PSI and work your way down a little at time. Always check pressures when HOT.

I'm an amateur, do not have the equipment to physically check tire temps...hand on side and top my only method of reference...sad I know

Everyone starts somewhere  (and I havent got round to it yet lol). Sadly a hand on the tyre is not going to tell you anything about the temps though the way in which the pressures rise when hot will tell you a bit more as if they go up evenly they are likely to be working as one (wether thats a good thing or not depends on too many things such as driving style etc unfortunately lol). As I say, take a look at http://www.uphillracers.com/forum.php and join up/ask the question on there, theres loads of experienced people on there as well as noobs and they are more than happy to help point you in the right direction . Good choice of motorsport BTW, friendly bunch of people and some really interesting machinery out on the hills.
