hey guys, as some of you know ive had the golf off the road for about 8 months... its admittedly not been started for a while either.
i had the cam cover off and ive now put it back together and its not starting..?
the battery is still turning the lights on but when i turn the key i get ignition lights but no noise from the starter?
the fuel pump is priming also...
if the battery is dead would i not get clicking noises, or could it be past that point haha :D
cheers for any help, im just concerned ive put something back wrong!

When you hold it in the cranking position do your dash lights go dim/out,could be bad connection to the starter,ie bit of corrosion on the terminals ,check your earths, could be failed ignition switch
-
no, they dont flicker at all...?
however im now doubting meself, ill go and check again haha
-
just checked and they dont really dim at all....
shame i dont have a multimeter really :(
-
Sometimes if its the switch you can tell by holding it in the cranking position and give it alittle wiggle starter may kick in i had to do this on mine for a week till i got it sorted
-
ok, will try it, but im not convinced... i think i need to try a fully charged battery, then start worrying.... nightmare, need him back on the road asap!
-
Yeah give it a charge but dash lights would go really dim if it was low bat as all power be going to the starter, also try this, bridge the small red/black wire on the starter with the big main live on the starter using a piece of wire with the ignition switch in the on position (so the dash lights are on)
-
they went a bit but not massive amounts?
will do that later on... see what happens!
buggeration haha
cheers for the help though buddy!
if i do the above, will it turn the starter motor telling me if its a bad earth..?
-
It will just confirm your starter and battery is ok and you need to look elsewhere for the fault, earths, connections, wiring ,switch etc, hope you sus it buddy good luck
