Right, I'm skint. My mk2 is in the garage to get sorted as I've given up trying to get "a good pedal".
They have diagnosed a dodgy caliper which a rebuild kit won't fix
Unfortunately the "spare" pair of calipers +hubs I had, I donated to a mate in need and can't very well ask for them back :embarassed:.
I don't wan to fit 256mm calipers as this would mean new discs and general backward step.
So does anybody know of a decent pair of 280mm Girling/ Lucas 54 calipers that I can get? Seems everybody wants arms and legs for them.
The other option, might be a bit mental, is fitting Ate twin pot 2fn42/32 calipers off an R32/TT but I think they take a huge disc 322mm(?) Would I need a bigger master cylinder to use them? Friend is selling them very cheaply though.
I have a friend in a machine shop who may be able to knock up some adapters if this idea is viable? Would be to sit on a G60 hub.
So any help/ suggestions welcome

I think from what I have read yes they do.

Been doing my own research and from what I have read 280mm calipers from a mk3 will bolt right up to a 16v (256mm) hub and the carriers I have should fit too. They also have the added bonus of not commanding the premium that G60 brakes do.
R32 twin pots take a 312mm disc and would probably need to run 17's, think for the time being that plan has to be shelved.

I have 16's on it just now.... Kismet?
Would need my mate to machine up some adapters though. Hmmmmmn....
I'd also prob's need a larger master cylinder to work the bigger pistons?

I would stick with 280mm, you don't really need 312mm on a mk2 unless you have daft power.

True, but then if I have them I would then need daft power, thus justifying to myself the 16v G60 I've always wanted... You see the logic obviously?

Surely if your skint you dont want to have to buy new discs? Nor do you really want to buy new discs that are for a 5 stud car either? Or am I missing something really simple here lol  .

280mm and 256mm calipers are the same it's just thecarriers that are different.
As I wanted to keep 4x100 on my mk3 to update them I used mk2 16v hubs,54calipers off an early mk3 golf or Ibiza with 280mm carriers off the same car.then used g60 discs and pads.
Unfortunately I've just give someone my 2 spare calipers or you could have had them for postage costs.
If you look for 256mm set ups people not in the know don't charge such a premium when they are intact the same g54 caliper as the 280mm ones.

Cheers for the replies folks.
I think I'm going to get my mate to see if he can tap out the broken bleed nipple and I'll fit a rebuild kit, tidy them up then.
I was speaking to someone who know's about these things and he said he thought that having had the calipes off pads out that when they went back in they aren't sitting exactly parrallel to the disc thus causing a sinking in the pedal.
So anyone recommend a decent caliper rebuild kit? Was looking at biggred.

What he said... Mine on the MK1 are from a Corrado g60 280mm, but the carriers are from an audi and i'm running 256mm mk2 valver discs.

I could get complete brand new G60 calipers and carriers for approx 160. I don't have 160.

Cheers for that, my mate is bringing me a pair sometime next week. Hopefully take the headache out of it, or most of the headache at least.
