Title: New Fish Tank
Post by: Evoss on 17 June 2011, 23:22
Hey All,

I got this fish tank a while ago, letting it bio cycle before the fish go in.

It is a Fluvel Edge. Im not normally the fish pet sort of person, but this tank looks awesome and getting a few neon fish and 5 shrimp to beaver around the ground xD

Getting the fish tomorrow.

The tank is a glass block with a small opening at the top, so it looks like a block of water.

Pics of the tank:

Thats a tropical tank mate, u will need a lot of expensive gear to turn that into a marine tank!

O n shrimp are absolute fcukers! Don't get them cos believe it or not they will attck pretty much anything in the tank if it's in reach!

I had some red cherry shrimp and they looked great on the plants. They were harmless, just don't get any Chichilds (i think that's how its spelled) as they attack shrimp.

Just do your research on the fish before you by them to make sure they wont try eating each other lol

My Silver Dollars:

My common Plec (called Ugly):

And my humbug catfish:

Watch out with the siamaese fighter and the guppies tho buddy, siamaese fighters can mistake guppies for their own species due the the long vibrant fins and tail, and therefore attack them. Just keep an eye on them, hope it all works out fine though

Cheers, Les

Hi ashbreed, nice tank, just wondering; how do you gouramis get along with the anglefish? I've heard that they don't always get along, but also see them in tanks together all the time, was just wondering how they get on, because i wouldn't mine a few gouramies

gourami's and angels are ok most of the time unless your unlucky and get a real aggressive one of either fish. Just dont buy an oscar if you want any other fish in the tank! ended up feeding mine mice!

Post by: ashbreed on 19 June 2011, 10:29
Hey les, well the gouramis were there1pm the tank b4 the angles. The gouramis tend to stay at the top of the tank n the angels down the bottom so sort of stay out of each others way!

Had a few African chilclids a few years ago n sh!t got real messy so had to take them out!

Loving ur humbug catfish!

will have to get a pic of our 4 footer up!!
as said, be careful with the fighter and guppies!!
also, unless you have salt water then you shouldnt have a clown fish...
weve had loads of fish now, proper addiction!
at the min we have 3 x tiger oscars, 2 x tilapia buttikoferi, 1 x 10 inch plec, 4 x kuhli loaches, brill!!

Shepgti - well i'm half way there then, because i've got a really peaceful angel, (he is one out of 4 that i got earlier this year, and he was bullied by the others so sent them back and now he's alot happier ). So I might go for some gouramis, waybe a few that get bullied in the tanks in the shops . Oh and don't worry, I won't be getting oscars, i'de feel well grim feeding the buggers mice, haha

Ashbreed - Thanks and I'de never get african chiclids - just too aggresive and stop you having much else in the tank.

All in all I think I might get some gouramies. Should be able to squeeze a few more fish in the tank because i've just bought an aditional filter, so should be good.

Loving it man! And good choices, especially with the fighting fish. That's next on my list  I had 3 angel fish and a common pleco. But unfortunately one of the angel fish died after being relocated into a bigger tank. A real shame as he was the most impressive one of the three

I have a pleccy called Mr Suckalar, he is getting a bit big now, they dont stop growing even if you have a small tank :undecided:.
If a smaller fish dies over night he hoovers them up without a trace (likes neons), so much for eating alge
I also have some clown loaches, they are just so funny to watch

try for some pics.......

It's crazy isn't it i was originally told they get to 30cm in aquariums but i think it's more like 45-60cm from what i've heared, i know my Ugly, is probs just over 30cm including her tail... I hope she stays that size  now because of how destructive they can be in the aquarium

looks great how the guppies getting along with the fighter?

Give them a couple of days to settle in, that way you should be able to see if they will get along or not. Thats what I've found in the past - you can get fish and they'll be okay with each other whilst they are settling in, but once they've settled in they don't get on (i've had this with angles, red tailed black sharks, ruby barbs even some rainbow fish and more...)

But good luck, hope they get on because they're all great looking fish

At first there was a bit of tension between the two species, then over night the pecking order seems to have settled, they seem happy enough to stick together now.

Evoss:
Hopefully they'll be alright then, i'm guessing they where just establishing whether they were the same speciecs of not and by the sound of it they know they're different which is a good thing

And i think you've got cardinial tetras there not neon tetras (cardinials are better looking anyway - they have a full red belly instead of only half a red belly like a neon)

Ashbreed:
how do your plecos get along, i was thinking of getting another similar sized pleco a while back when i had more room in my tank but didn't bother because some can become territorial with there own kind if similar sized, and I didn't want to upset mine.

what plecos did you say you have again?

I have a common plec, i got him when he was only 6cm and about 3-4 years later is about 30cm+

les

I got them wen I was setting the tank up must be over 2 years ago. They got an understanding n get on fine. Both of them just wander all over the tank n don't really have a favorite place.

looks like a lovely set-up and looks fantastic in 1080p HD

a very busy tank though... if I were to have another set-up I would just have a couple/a few fish and make it really calm

had a look at your channel... would be lovely to see a video like the one above with your latest set-up but just a still/tripod camera shot of the whole tank with very calm/classical music (like another one you did on your channel) but in 1080p...for about 5 minutes..  i'd then have it full screen and loop it - and probably fall asleep!!
