This was when GTIs also went turbo, and again you can but decent, six-figure-mileage examples for just 995 GBP.
First off i've highlighted the typo, secondly any 1.8T for less than 1k is going to be a dog not 'decent'.
But the Mk5 is the real return to hardcore form, although at my age that on-the-limit stuff isn’t air-con and lumbar support. Even so, a 2006 2.0 GTI, for 6495 GBP, is tempting
I also wouldn't be tempted by any Mk5 which is only 6.5k. :undecided:

Never had a spot of rust on my mk2 and even if I did, I'd rather that than a f**ked up boring mk3 :p

What is it with mk2's??! Ive had 2 and would much rather drive my old 8v mk3 (of which Ive had 3) :undecided: :lipsrsealed:

You just have no taste, that's all.

If anyone thinks they are gonna get my 05 mk5 for less than £8000 they would be told to GTFO!! The recession hitting harder than I think?
-
I find most ppl who are not in the vw scene prefer mk3s to mk1 or mk2s, its only once they get told by the scene mk3s are sh!t that they start also believing it

I think the mk3 is a fantastic car, I really liked my 16v and would probably still have it if it hadn't been poorly jigged by a previous owner. But I prefer the look of a mk2, it was my 1st car, and turns out mk3 engines go much better in the mk2 shell

amen to that!
And both mk2's I've had have been far less rusty than the mk3 daily...
-
lol I find mk4 engines go better in a mk3 also  No doubt would go even better in a mk2 but I prefer the mk3 comfort. I have a mate who has a custom 2.1l, forget what its made up of but its pretty quick, fun to have a ride in it but as a daily no thx far too uncomfortable :)
I think the rust issues are about how well they have been looked after with how old they are (obviously), but what I mean is, most if not all the badly looked after mk1/2s will have rusted out and been scrapped by now so you only really see the ones that have been looked after. A badly looked after mk3 would still have enough life left in it to be on the road :) At least thats what I'm putting it down to :P
