I have got a mk3 16v and have got an annoying rattle coming from the front of the car underneath. Had a look last night as it sounded like the heatshield on the exhaust, as I have had his before, but that all seems pretty solid and all the clips are still in place. It hasn't dropped either.
Anybody have any suggestions on what it could be, going to have a more detailed look at the weekend when I have more time but any suggestions may help me in my search.
Cheers.

could still be the heat sheild, but may be the exhaust is touching somewhere?
-
Yeah just been out for a run in it and its definately the heatshield, need to get underneath it and have a good look at the system.
-
just rip it off, i did haha
-
What all sections, looks to be about 3 from what I saw last night!
-
i ripped the mid section out (above the cat) however its usually the one behind the downpipe that is the trouble causer :)
-
If the one on the downpipe, do not remove it but wrap a jubliee clip around it to tighten it.
-
Just been out to have a look and think its the one on the downpipe btu doest seem to be touching anywhere I can see.
Oh well good look at it on Saturday and it will be sorted, thanks for the pointers.

the studs come away i think, thats what happened on mine!
-
As above, don't rip off the manifold heat shield a large jubilee clip around it should solve it if that's the cause

Ive had heatshield rattle for 12 months now its time to sort it,i ripped one off a while back it had corroded at the fixing points and dropped, but on a long run i can feel the heat soaking through so this weekend i will be removing more rattly heatshields then will wrap the exhaust with some nice and quiet exhaust wrap, happy days

Tried to take the heatshield off today but it was a nightmare managed to get one side open but the other was too tight and I have left it for tonight. How have other people got them off? Will get some exhaust wrap and tidy it up once it is off.
-
Prob best to take the exhaust off if you removing the downpipe one easier to wrap up after aswell.
-
Probably best. If I can get it off without taking the exhaust off then it would be great but I can't see any way that I can.
-
I had this on my 16v think it was down to the down pipe.
-
It maybe the large cast ally heatshield above the manifold. Lean right over the engine and look down.

It's the one on the downpipe, the joint had rusted and was rattling like a bugger. spent most of yesterday afternoon trying to get it off so will finish it tonight and wrap it with exhaust wrap.
