Just wondering if anyone knows of any diy wheelbearing removal links for my 16v. Ive done them on other cars but just wondering if its relatively the same on these ? mainly the front ones somethings making a racket and im 90% sure its the wheel bearing on drivers side front do they need to be pressed out or have you managed to get them out with force and a big hammer
-
Yeah pretty straight forward can be done with vice and hammer and big socket to drive bearing out / in ,or fly press if you have access to one,if you done wheel bearings before youll piss it
-
Yeah i can get hold of a fly press and pretty much any tool under the sun handy having a retired mechanic of a dad who has a vast amount of tools  im sure he will help if needed anyhow but hes away at the mo and i just want to crack on with it  ive done a few now on my old cars some being right pains others quite easy  cheers mate

Rears ?
piss easy dont need a press, u can knock old one out from behind, to get new one in use old bearing race and hammer in just dont hit the new bearing (hit it on the outer race with the old race
half hour per side and you will be back on the road
Fronts, i hear u deffo need press...
-
as kells said, rears are easy!!
fronts you really need a press!

Fronts can't be done without a press.

if the bearing is going you will probably be getting grating noises aswell as wheel wobble

What method did you use?
-
Gentle pursuasion with a large vice ,large hammer and a big socket and a few small drifts,no bearings were mamed or killed in this operation :smiley:but yeah press is the way to go if u can.
-
It can be done with a decent engineering vice, but i have seen a couple of bearings that have taken 5 tonne of pressure to let go.
That would be very hard work without a press
