Currently have a MK4 1.8t 15-bhp and am looking to buy a new car am stuck between a Audi S3 1.8t 225 or a MK4 R32?
Will be looking to go Garrett big turbo route on the S3.
Or Turbocharging the R32 with a Storm Developments Turbo kit.
Which do you guys think is the best route/which would yo choose?
-
Audi S3 even tweaked it will be a lot better on fuel in the long run.
-
I'd go for the S3 personally, R32 sounds nice, especially when boosted but it's not worth the extra weight/fuel.
-
if he can afford to turbocharge either of them im sure he can afford to fuel them... the r32 you would get bigger bhp results.. better sound.. better looks.. The S3 is good but the 1.8t is not a strong engine when you go up to 280+ bhp...
-
Youll struggle to find a decent mileage s3 aswell, unless you go new shape?! whereas theres loads of mk4 r32's about with less than 60k on the clock, you try and find me a s3 8l shape with less than 60k, there wont be many i tell you now!
R32 turbo FTW

Tech1989 where did you hear the engine is not strong after 280hp ? BAM and AMK are strong..
id go down the s3 route personally, can make it alot faster for alot less cash, i like the R32, my mate has a turbo on his, its pretty fast but feels heavy.. sounds fantastic tho
As said above most S3's have over 100k
-
Have found a S3 with 82k on the clock for just under 5k and a R32 with 85k for just under 6k.
As said by tech1989, nah fuel economy is boring, who cares
Won't be doing that many miles anyway as am off with the Royal Marines soon so just want a fun car to come home too.
Want 350bhp+ tbh
-
r32 twin turbo all the way sounds awsome and can get 500 out of them plus you got the pleasure of the looks of the mk4 r32
cheers
-
Problem with twin turbo set up is the off the shelf from HPA or HGP is it wont fit a right-hand drive car due to the master cylinder being in the way, so would have to be a custom set up and would starting to cost stupid money.

Charged R32
-
Id have the R32 for the looks and soundtrack.

Personally i would'nt want to be spending thousands on getting an extra 140bhp+ out of either of those cars with 80k+ on the clocks unless you have a bottomless pit of cash :undecided:
I'd have the R32 though as preffer them to the S3(8L tunned to 290bhp) i had a few years back
-
What year is the S3? Just asking as being on the audi forum for a year when someone had bought a "cheap" s3, they often had a nightmare with it! you can get a 300bhp out of it for not that much, with a k04 hybird, for a big turbo youd' be looking at 350bhpish? Or more?
If its not the s3 image your worried about, probably is, but you can get a3 quattros for cheap then big turbo that to 320bhp or more if money allows forged items. But I'd rather an s3 though anyday

As am away with Marines soon, will be a huge long term project and probably end up as a fast road/track car for when i'm home wont be doing loads of miles
