Title: It Should be Built This Week!
Post by: SRGTD on 13 June 2011, 22:10
Heard from the dealer today that my car (GTD) should be built this week  It's been a long wait as I ordered it mid November.

I'd read lots about the build delays before ordering so was aware when I placed my order that it'd be a long(ish) wait, but I wasn't expecting it to be quite this long. However, judging by what I've read on this forum, it'll be worth the wait and I shouldn't be disappointed when I finally get it. I'm hoping for early July delivery - I've decided not to wait for the September 61 plate as I'd rather have it now and enjoy driving it during what's left of the summer.

Spec of my car is; 5 door GTD, Carbon Grey, 18" Charlestons, Bi-Xenons, Front/Rear parking sensors, RCD 510 with Dynaudio and Luxury Pack.

Thanks everyone for keeping me entertained with the many and varied posts during the long period while I've been waiting. I'll post some pictures when I get my car.

Mine was built last week. Might be here at the end of this month, but most likely early July too. You'll be getting MY2012 aswell

Did your dealer mention a £40 voucher for having to wait more than 6 months?

Sounds like near enough the perfect spec to me.
Touch wood, only a few more weeks.

Yes, it should be MY2012 although the differences between MY11 and MY12 aren't really show stoppers for me - LED number plate lights and being able to fully switch off the traction control, IIRC.

No, my dealer hasn't mentioned anything about a £40 voucher. Do you know whether or not that's something being offered by all VW dealers if you've been waiting more than 6 months?

I heard 16 weeks was the "Reimburse  me point" So maybe strike a deal that instead of a loan car it's £40/week per delay off the final bill.  Or get them to service / cambelt your old car prior to sale (I like that one).

Service this shocking at this price point is shabby.  I'm 5.5 weeks since I ordered and would likeley have a BMW by now had I gone for the blue propeller number!

... I know the changes are not worth waiting for, but still nice to have a 2012 model

Spoke to my dealer - the voucher is from VW, so should apply to all dealers.

You might find this bit interesting - the 'system' showed a chassis number last Friday. Today it is showing 'shipped'. Fingers crossed, I may be able to collect it at the end of next week :smug:

Contacted my dealer today and they tell me my car is currently 'in the build process'. I asked about the £40 voucher and they tell me it's a £40 VW accessories voucher and should be sent direct from VW head office.

Any news on when your car will be ready for you to collect? I see you ordered in September (nice spec! ), so you've had a longer wait than me! Hope you enjoy; remember to post some pictures up.

My GTD is in Grimsby  The transport company emailed my dealer this morning. Get it next week

I got a £40 VW voucher in the post today.  Does anyone have experience of the rear sunblind i.e. how its fitted and if its useful?

So when you look at what you can get for Free / circa £40, so you don't spend more on over-priced options.....

Luggage Net: £45
Drinks Cool Box: £68
Storage Bag £20
First Aid Kit: £24
Use Once Headlight converters £19
Safety Kit: £18
Spare Bulb Kit: £23
Oil Check Kit: £16
Flexible Load Liner: £45
Floor Mats: £57-65
Folding Carry Bag and boot holdall: £50
Clothes Hanger: £26
Various Car Care Stuff...

What would you guys go for? As I have Xenon's spare bulbs isn;t a big help too me, so I'm thinking Flexible Laod Liner to pay £5 for a roll of rubber seems about correct to me!

I've got the flexible load liner, superb bit of kit, I play a lot of golf and throw everything in the boot like the kids bikes and the the carpet underneath looks brand new.

... yeah, think that's what I would go for. Was considering buying one anyway. Carry a lot of work stuff in the boot sometimes. Hope a liner would help stop it sliding about. Also do a bit of kayaking and the liner might be easier to clean sand off.

Dealer fitted a rear sunblind and both passenger side doors, charged £25 and it took about 45 minutes.  Makes the already tinted windows in the rear look very dark indeed but does cut out the sun, I have mine mainly for the dog and for when we cart the grandkids around.

I've received a £40 voucher to spend on VW stuff.  I've gained that as my car was a previous order that the dealer grabbed and changed to my spec on 1st May.  Due for Week 31 build, but will have to get an update from the dealer as there is a possibility that it could be later than that.
Title: Re: It Should be Built This Week!....UPDATE; Now built and at Grimsby
Post by: SRGTD on 30 June 2011, 18:42
Spoke to the dealer this afternoon. Car is currently in Grimbsy waiting to be transported to the dealer. They're hopeful it will be with them mid week, next week so all being well, I'll be able to pick it up in just over a week's time.

Looking forward to getting it as it's been a very long wait; seven and a half months so far!

Picked up my GTD last Thursday and here it is , with a couple of piccies of my mk5 (GT TDI 170) that I said goodbye to when I picked up the new car.

From this;

First impressions; the cabin is a nicer place to be than the mk5. No creaks or rattles (fingers crossed, hope it'll stay that way), much quieter, smoother power delivery. And I'm enjoying it !

8 months was a long wait, but I think it was worth it!
