Post by: starsky on 13 June 2011, 14:07
Just wanted to say a big thanks to Nick and his team at R-tech for remapping my mk5 GTI. Excellent service all round and well happy with the results. My car feels fantastic and what a gti should be!!!

I will post a full review in the mk5 forum but just wanted to thank R-tech, highly recommended.

Cheers

Paul

can i ask how much the remap was and what it took the power from and to please?

Also roughly what does this improve the 0-60 time to?

Cheers,

Mat

If you can get the power down then you can clear a 1.5s of the 0-60 time from a good stage 1 remap.  I got mine down to 4.5s last summer running 330lbft 240ish bhp and now 290lbft 260bhp 4.8s but with lots of extra mods. http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=2212104622033

0-60 after mapping is all down to the driver, you could have another 100lbft and gets slower 0-60 due to wheel spin.

Or cheat and get launch control added to the mapping :-)

What's the cost of a remap for a STD mk5 and will fuel economy suffer at all?

Good feedback there.

Our pricing for a MK5 is £249 inc the installer travelling to you.  Power gains are on our site.

Starsky did you go for the standard or custom stage 1 remap?
I'm trying to decide which to go for, see recent post, booked in for couple of weeks time.

We can provide the R-Tech spec1 remap for £250 all Inc, the price will include full visual inspections if the engine and common components which tend to cause issues post remap, you will also get a full pre remap logging session to make sure the engine is in safe condition to tune, plus you will also get before and after power runs on the rolling road. For an extra £40 you can upgrade the map to a custom spec1 map which will be unique to your car, we can filter the flat spots and adjust the throttle mapping to your driving style.  As for mpg, if you drive it hard all the time then you will be worse off, but normal like for like driving I gave had customer come back with reports of 10-12% mpg gains.

If you need any more information you can drop me a pm or contact the workshop direct on 01455 617233 or if your local you could always pop in and have a free pre remap inspection and a trial taster remap to see if it's what your looking for.  (try before you buy ;-))

Thanks for the info chap, might sound a daft question but what's the difference between a £200 r-tech map and a £500 revo map (apart from the obvious £300 :o))

Cheers,

Mat

Overheads. :-)

We are a small company with 5 staff where revo has many mouths to feed and a huge marketing budget.

We constantly update our maps to move with the times and ageing cars, we are now on generation 3 mapping for the tfsi, to take into account weaker actuators ect, we have spent many ours working on brand new throttle load maps which are based on Porsche 997 turbo mapping, which gives the driver a linear throttle at every rpm range, unlike the factory dbw mapping which makes the tfsi feel surgey or all or nothing throttle. We are the only tuner who offers linear throttle mapping for the 1.8t and 2.0tfsi engines.

Sounds good, when the latest in the day I would be able to pop over and get the car checked and a try before you buy map applied?
