when replacing abs sensor is it ok to just buy the sensor itself or is it worth buying the sensor with the cable.as seen sensors on ebay for 7-8 pound just for sensor and about £22 for sensor and cable...
cheers
-
buy those sensors if you want to replace em in 6 months time
-
well im looking at selling the car just needs sensor to pass mot...are they crap then the ebay ones?
-
as churchill (the dog) would say "ooooohhhhhh yessss!!!!"
should still pass the mot with the abs light on i think.
-
you sure about that!
-
Gsf or euro car parts do the rear abs cable for about 14-18 quid.
And abs light on will fail a mot..
-
not always, as some mot testers will kow that its a common fault and your breaks still work just that the abs wont be kicking in
-
think i might just chuck it in for mot and if it gets picked up than i will replace it,looks a bit of a pain to change as is looks like its welded itself in there.
-
9 out of 10 times you have to smash the old gits out.
-
yeah just done a search on here! looks like hammer time
-
Not done a rear yet! But replaced both fronts and THE only way to get them out is to smash them to bits!
ABS light on is a definite fail. No question. FAIL!
I know as I had this on one of my Pug 405's it was only an intermittent light fault as if you switched off and started the car again the light would go off, but it still failed.
-
cant you just take the buld out!!

Yes it is 100% a fail.

You have to replace a rear sensor with the wire attached version you cannot just unplug the sensor at the wheel end ,them rear ones on ebay without the wire are infact front ones as i found out .got a rear from gsf in the end, still hasnt fully fixed my ABS probs though and MOT is looming
-
i need to replace all four of mine vag coms telling me looks like i have a fun time ahead
-
Fun,fun fun then it still wont work, mine is peeing me right off at the mo ha  think i need a new ecu but theres no number on it and there are so many to choose from ,wat a mare
-
Jesus this is starting to sound like a bit of pig job.vag com tells me rear right sensor fault! One out one in job done surly! Even if you do need a hammer
-
People are making it sound a lot worse than it actually is, yes they do get seized into position BUT it's still not a big job to replace them.
-
Front ones really rust in, i haven't done a rear one to date.
Nothing a hammer and chisel won't sort out
-
Once the bolt is out you can use a thin punch through a hole in the brake disc to remove the remainder of the broken sensor.

+1 easy job to do, I remove the scale from the hole with an old imperial size drill about .20mm bigger than the metric size.
This helps with the New sensors being a bit tighter in the hole, they dont like being banged in
-
Na they don't, ive had to file or grind down virtually every new sensor before fitment.
-
Test the sensor before you remove it. Rear right fault can be a sign of ECU failure. Just had this. Changed sensor and fault is still there. And thats with a S/H replacement ECU fitted.
-
if it is the sensor would the fault go straight away or does it take a while for light to go out...heard somewhere it can take a few miles before light goes out.surly you can use vagcom to clear fault if it is sensor
-
If the problem has been solved, the light should go out as soon as you go over about 20mph, or it might be slower than that.
You won't need VAG com to reset it.
-
I think it's 15mph.

I think it's 15mph.
Yep thats probably it
