Title: Fitting my aftermarket stereo help
Post by: MK4_20VT on 12 June 2011, 22:02
Quick question

Will this adaptor allow me to fit my aftermarket JVC stereo without needing to find an igniton live source

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-Golf-MK5-radio-stereo-wiring-harness-adapter-lead-/130508966982?pt=UK_Cars_Parts_Vehicles_Terminals_Cabling_ET&hash=item1e62f0cc46

As it says  some vehicles may require an extra power feed, this is readily available on the harness -  Red wire

Thanks

thats not what i have for mine, but that's not to say it won't fit.

you need to join the red and yellow wires from the Cd player side, to the yellow wire from the car side. this should give you constant feed.

Thanks _Adam_

So I take it you didn't need to run an ignition wire from the fuesbox to the stereo?

Ive got an aftermarket Alpine unit and the radio reception is pony even with a signal booster. Given up and just accepted that its going to be crap, mainly us MP3 CDs anyway.

FYI mine is an early model GTI without the roof antenna (looks so much cleaner and better) which might explain it?

Ok the Stereo is installed, but I now have to turn it no/off myself plus it doesn't autodim when the lights go on

Looks like I am going to have to buy a Can-Bus adaptor

Oh well, least I get my MP3 & DAB back

Canbus is the only way to auto dim unless using OEM units. You may also have permanent live feed instead of ignition live?

Yeah, you need to canbus. Mine doesnt do any of that as it doesnt have the canbus but it doesnt bother me.
