james
-
hi how ya doin glad to see another stevenage golfer on here, the only other i think
anyway about the exhaust
it's a magnex (sweet sounding, low rumble) i think they call it a twin dtm not sure though
it goes from the cat back and is ss
and the important stuff is where and how much i suppose
i bought the exhaust just after i bought the car because the normal fart pipe was rusted and need replacing so i originally went over to topgear in stablans on london road but they want me to make an appointment but me being me wanted it done there and then.
so to cut a long story short
i went to R-Tech in st-albans and paid 240 quid fitted
sound real nice much better than the original and it doesnt shake the street when i drive down it

hehe. I only just got the car 3 weeks ago. gotta get the bonnet and rear drivers side door resprayed. they have been resprayed sometime in the past to a pretty poor standard (patchy marks).
Also got the most annoying rattle/vibration sound coming from the front as if there is a leak everytime i accerate. i have had the exhaust system replaced all except the downpipe. Have bought a new downpipe and will get it fitted this week. i really hopes it solves the issue.
The car is pretty good. girlfriend has got a golf convertible mk3. And my next buy is gonna be a vw camper.
-
got to admit when i bought my golf there was a leaking exhaust noise coming from the front, i hoped that it was after the cat but i think it is probably the same problem as yours
keep me posted on the result of your change
an exhaust centre said it wasn't the down pipe but i know damb well the down pipes are a b!tch to change so i'm guessing he was fogging me off because it was first thing on a saturday morning, you probably know the place BOBS TYRES AND EXHAUSTS
so anyway the noise is slowly getting worse and the car is getting slower because of the reduced back pressure with a decrease in fuel econ
maybe i'll see you zipping about stevenage sometime
cheers jay
-
i will keep ya posted on the downpipe situation. i hope it solves the prob. i will look out for ya around stevenage.
-
Looking sweet, just needs lowering now
-
yeah i know i'm working on it just got to find the time to do it already have the suspension that will lower it by about 40mm
can't wait for some safe driving as the sus that is on it is a bit raggid

she's a cutie thats for sure not going to be able to lower it much with those alloys though
how much were you thinkin can't remember what you said earlier
-
oh yeah get yourself a vr6 lower front skirt looks much better than the original
on ebay for 30 quid well easy to fit
-
hi mate, had a new downpipe fitted today and thought i would tell ya the end result. Its cured the awful noise. the car sounds sweet and crisp. got formula one to fit it this morning.
The noise on the old downpipe was due to the spring section which bolts to the manifold being worn over time. so it would rattle due to the vibration of engine.
so i am now happy

looks good mate, shame about the bird pooh near the filler cap.....

Hi guys,
I'm a newbie to the site and a newbie mk3 16v Gti owner. I noticed that you guys are in Stevo. I'm just down the road from you in Hitchin. Nice to have some other dubbers close by. I'll post some pics of my new toy when i get round to taking some. It's a '95 3-door in mystic blue. Only done 70,000 and has a fsh. It's been in London most of it's life and as such the wheels are a bit tatty and a couple of bits of bodywork need some attention but i'm really pleased with it so far (bearing in mind i have come from a 1.6 corsa sport). Anyway, hope to chat to you at some point.
Andy.
