Post by: mattyb12345 on 10 June 2011, 23:41
i have no idea what it could be i have a mk3 gti 8v and im doing about 0-60 in 13 seconds i can feel the car wanting more power, also there is a crackling noise coming from the engine when im go into a high gear with low revs..??? i recently also found out the previous owner for some reason had disconnected the fuel filter and just bypassed it.??? any help or advice would be great thanks. matt.

Not sure why you would bypass a fuel filter unless it is blocked, so I would start by fitting a new one.

i would do what wayne saids chances are though by now one of your injectors could already be blocked or partially blocked as the fuel filter is there for that reason. could also be a number of things
1.coilpack
2.ecu relay
3.fuel pump relay
4.needs a good service
5. check all earths aswell coilpack to head battery to gearbox and various others

Cant say much about the crackling sound as ive never experienced it as for the pinking im not sure either i was under the impresion that pinking occurs with points which im sure 8v's dont have ignition timing might be out however does it rev over 5000rpm ?

Well if it is pinking that suggests underfueling.

underfueling really? well i brought myself a new fuel filter yesterday and fitted it today as the previous owner had bypassed it for some reason?? no petrol leaks.. from what i can see still have power loss
