Title: Big Bore Downpipe
Post by: _Adam_ on 10 June 2011, 12:32
after talking to Rhyso, instead of getting a full exhaust system before a remap i think i'll just go for an upgraded downpipe.

does anyone know if i can have a de-cat pipe and still pass an MOT?

what price should i looking to pay for a downpipe and also a decat pipe?

Cheers

Decat = mot failure

As said decat will = MOT fail, just get a bigger bore downpipe and a less restrictive cat.

I believe the downpipe would normally attach to the cat, but in place of the cat is just a straight-through pipe (decat pipe). You do not require a cat on diesels to pass an MOT.

Yeah, thats nonsense.

If a cat was fitted when the car was manufactured then you need it to pass an MOT. Unless through some witchcraft they were able to reduce the emissions to a pass level without one.

a 100cell cat would do the trick.

Some people buy dummy cats off the bay, which look like a cat but are empty inside. It is then down to emissions whether it would pass the test and some actually do!!

Thinking of this on mine also, so far I've come across 2 off the shelf choices. Milltek and THS

The milltek is more expensive and the end is left at 63.5mm which won't fit your oe cat back. They want you to buy their complete system

The THS comes with adaptors to fit your oe cat back or another brand 63.5 system

The oe cat back systems o/d on mine is 55mm

You can get a reducer made to fit the milltek but that adds even more expense. Think i'm gonna try the THS, If I can find one

Good luck

a full turbo back exhaust for £145   I'd be doubting the quality of that.......

Otherwise if its £145 for just the decat then it sounds about right

What company are you using?
