As per title. Booked car in dealers for mot (only £39). Dealer also has a special where they check the air con and brake fluid for £99. Is it with it? Car has done over 36000 miles mostly on motorways cheers for any advice
-
If they are replacing the brake fluid and recharging the aircon for that price then get it done  If they are only performing checks then I wouldn't bother
Think they recommend brake fluid is changed every 2/3 years :undecided:
-
brake fluid should be changed every 2 years according to manual.
recently had mine done and it was around £60

My Aircon needed redoing after 3 years..Just about to spend some wonga on having it re-gassed...Then they stole it....
Hope we have a heatwave,,,

Air con systems need checking every 2 years really.
-
Cheersfor the advice. Will book her in for the air con and brake fluid check.

First brake fluid change is 3 years & every 2 after that.

Brake fluid change is every two years but I wouldn't waste money on the aircon. If it works and doesn't smell leave it alone.
If you think it's not working as well as it used to then maybe it has a refrigerant leak and I would have thought should be covered under warranty if it's under 3 years old.
Refrigerant doesn't detioriorate, so it doesn't need changing. It only needs recharging if it's lost refrigerant, in which case it's leaking.

The best service you can do with A/C is use it, at least half hour every 3 weeks. when its running the oil in the compressor is run around the system, lubricating all the rubber seals on joints, when the A/C is turned off, most the oil returns to the compressor, bottom of condensor and evaperator, so if the A/C isnt used for a while the seals go dry and leak refridgerant.
But a lot of leaks ive found working on car A/C is the condenser ie stones puncturng the rad.
If it smells when you switch on your A/C, remove your pollen filter, get some A/C freshner from a motor factors, spray it where the filter should be whilst the blower is on full so the spray covers the evaperator. job done
The last thing you want in an A/C system is moisture and crap from another cars A/C because it blocks the system when it freezes, every time you connect gauges there is a risk, so if it aint broke dont fix it

Mines whiffin a bit - any chance you could let me know where the pollen filter is located?
