Title: clocking mileage? new clocks have 140k car's only done 97k
Post by: andynorfolk on 08 June 2011, 19:24
does anyone know how to clock my new clocks back so they match the correct mileage? or anyone that'd be willing to do it for me... i replaced my clocks as i had 16v ones and i don't really want my car reading 140k miles when it hasn't done that amount...

Its well easy, take the clocks apart, undo the little cog from the side of the mileage meter and rewind back. I used a dremel with just the rubber tip fitted and clamped it all up in various vices and left it to spin away while I made I cup of tea. Going from 140 to 97 will take freaking ages this way tho, cos affectively you are turning the dials thru 50,000 miles haha!

I wouldnt wana dismantle the whole thing and change the numbers individually, that would get bvery messy and probs wouldnt work again.

as said this.. when i had a fiesta a while back i changed the clocks and did this and it took me a matter of minutes as my dremels lowest setting was 10,000rpm so 5mins was 50,000 miles lol

Actually, dismantling the clocks and changing the numbers by hand is pretty easy, if you have a search there is a couple of photo walkthroughs around.
