Hey guys, new here, and the search function gave me a million and one pointless threads XD sounds like a typical car forum to me!! I've just bought a MK3 gti 8v in dragon green, loving it, but, it's not me just yet as it's bog standard. s was wandering what alloys you guys had put on yours, rough prices on them, and how much you've lowered it by in order to get that "stance". Would be interested in hearing from a few of you and seeing this that I like and dislike.
I'm mainly looking for some VR6 style BBS rims, but would be nice to see what else works well!

My wheels are in the pic in my signiture bellow.
Can't post pics up at the mo as using my blackberry
They are 15“ lenso bsx
There are actuly fake split rims but they looks fecking awsum even close up.
Some people don't like them coz they aint real splits buy brand new with tyres they only cost me £600 but they look like wheels worth more.
I'm on coiloers that I have dropped as far as I can go without to much tyre rubbing.
My front vr style splitter is an inch or so from the floor.

These were mine:

-
DOM was going to do the same to mine , just not found some wheels yet to run when doing them..look good ...
-
This thread has shown me that the MK3 golf seems to work with every alloy imaginable... I've not seen one that looks bad yet...
still loving the BBS splits mind. the standard GTI ones are a little bland and boring for my liking.
-
If I were going down the bbs split route I'd look for some E50s or similar.
Axis OG-2 would be a good choice.. Cheap too:

cheers bud, i love em!
need to do 2 more then ill have a full set of 5 :)
-
definately something different that's for sure. All the wheels I like cost a fortune, best get saving! would you all say 17" is the "usual" size for these then, as it seems not many people are rolling on 15s!
-
It's up to you mate.
15" is fine as long as you're willing to go really low.
17" is better for speed bump clearance.
16" is a happy median.
-
there are plenty of speed bumps around here. i was thinking of coilovers with major lows ;)
-
Plenty of ramps where I live and I manage to be very low on 15,s and have not a lot of trouble getting about. Your learn where not to go after a wile lol

Team Dynamics-Swords 17" 4x100 ET38 with around and 80ish mm drop.
Bloody horrible but i got them new when it was my missus 1st car and was only £380 for a set new so i wasnt too bothered if she curbed them(which she did) new ones will be aquired once ive sorted the interior out.
This pic isnt of the wheels but i just like it (probably becuase they arnt in it)

Wheel size has sod all effect on ride height!
Using the correct tyres for each wheel diameter you will end up with the same rolling radius!
-
You know what I mean!
You don't want balloons on your sexy new 15" alloys.
So  back at you!
But you're right, it is dependant on tyre profile.
-
However, wheel size will affect ride quality and handling.

-
I run these bbs (in my sig) bought them for 40 bucks, they where well rough though, blasted them, sprayed the centres LC4T to match the car and clearcoated them, well chuffed with the result ,could do with some spacers though as they tuck a bit
-
17" Audi TT Comps. Paid £100 for these but that was without scene tax. Usually nearer the £200 mark for a tidy set.

Jack, Those banded steels on that 5dr you posted look sick!

Yeah, they're awesome. They're beetle steels originally.
Suit MK3s down to the ground.
-
Ah I thought I recognised them, I was looking for a set of them at the breakers a few months ago but had no joy obviously.
-
I can't imagine that they'd be an extortionate amount from the dealer if they're still stocked.
-
Na probably not but i wanted them for nowt.
-
I see.
Have you tried Woodgate in Ashford?
Best scrappy I've found around here.
-
No mate, never heard of that one actually. Is it a proper wander around with tools jobbie?
-
Yeah, managed to a get a few free bits for the old BMW.
-
Cool, i just Googled it and it's only half an hour away. I think il have a mooch about down there on Saturday if im free.

They are a bit pricey in the first place, I think they are USDM wheels so getting them over here is a cost to overcome too. Then there's added scene tax
