hi can anyone help me out please?i have a 5dr mk2 1989 gti and one of the window mechanisms is broken and im looking to replace with another genuine used part.can anyone tell me how i will tell the difference?many thanks.

Firstly. No "B" in genuine. Fat fingers I presume. :grin
Secondly: Do you have electric or manual?
Thirdly: Front or rear door?
Then we can work out if it is the switch or mechanism that may be at fault.

hehe thanks and you're not wrong about the fat fingers.they are manual winders and this one has seized solid and wont wind.have tried duck oil to free it but thought if could find a genuine 2nd hand one then itd do.i just dont know how to tell original vw parts from pattern parts.thanks for your reply and really appreciate any help.have always wanted to own a nice mk2 ,though not mechanically minded but happy to learn so can keep her running.

Any genuine parts, will have VW Audi logo stamped on it.
Try GPC, or Big boys toys for genuine new old stock replacements, or your local VW dealership... you never know!

If you have a ecp account or know someone who has, get a new 1 from there for about 5.50. The rrp is 40 odd quid, but if you get the discount its a steal. Get two while your at it, you don't realise how stiff they go until you've felt new. I can vouch for the quality as well they're perfectly good. Not as good as the leccy windows I've got in her now though...
