Title: Good deal?
Post by: RyanVW on 05 June 2011, 21:33
Hello
Im going to look at a 1.8t tomorrow, im taking my mechanic friend with me and the cash if i decide to buy it. I just wanna know if you guys think the price is reasonable. Before you say it i have done my research iv been looking at ebay, autotrader and pistonheads  for a while but the price seem to vary a lot. So tell me what you think.
Its a a black 3dr with 18" audi TT alloys (a bit curbed however)
T reg
tax till aug
mot till oct
Its on 95k miles however little service history just a few MOTs
He has the v5
There is a rust patch on passenger wheel arch... my mate said he sort it for about 100 quid
To me the car sounds reasonable but i dont wanna get ripped off
He'll take £1500 for the car... i knocked him down from 1800 already
Any thoughts?

Rust? poor repair from before maybe  :undecided:

Plenty more out there at good prices - lots of people are selling up because of the cost of petrol

Ive got 140k and its 11 years old no rust anywhere - and the only rust ive seen on a mk4 before was around the rear wiper fitting  :undecided:

Good point on the water pump and cam belt BTW

They are getting incredibly cheap now, but saying that as we all know they are like a bloody minefield, it can go wrong at any time lol.

I'd hate to sell mine for that kind of cash, spent about £2200 on mainly maintenance in the last 22 months of owning it.

Just had rust sorted on mine under the rear windscreen where water has sat and bubbled under the paint, ballache as rear window had come out but didn't have pay much and had some other bits and euro spec rears fitted at the same time.

Anyways, enjoy the new Golf, good price all in all :)

Never believe the 'Cambelts been changed but I have no proof' bullsh!t, heard that a few times. Why would they have no proof, at the very least receipts for parts.

Enjoy the new car ;)

Never used them before, stick with Euro Car Parts or similar as mentioned
