Well I finally got my hands on a mk2....

Its a 1989 GTI 8v

Bit shody but its in for a full strip down and re-build, heres a few pics....

im goin for the lightweight effect...im gonna take everything off/repair all rust/upgrade all running gear/get engine and box rebuilt/spray interior/fit roll cage/spray the bay and shell/fit all the nice newly painted engine,box and running gear/fit some nice factory buckets/get a full stainless on it/ and probly do alot more.....all suggestions welcome oh yeah wana get some compomotives on it n a decent set of coilies or evan gas struts.....

Footwell lookin in a sorry state, looks like its been pushed up by the jacking point is this replaceable??

best advice, get your local rag, look for scrap cars bought for cash and get rid, take off any reusable parts and buy a more solid base car

Apart from that, good luck if you are taking it on :grin:

Fook me that really is borderline don't bother.  Can you weld then?.  Someone who's a confident welder in my opinion wouldn't really need to ask if this and that can be fixed... My answer though is yes because from experience I realised anything is possible but it takes a lot to get a car like that straight and i have seen it done.  Question to you is, do you want to do it, can you do it and is it really worth it? Its going to cost quite a bit of cash going by what you want so if you can afford it and willing to do it, good luck and there's always good help and advise available here.  :smiley:

Past it imo. Surely cheaper and easier to buy a better base to start with and use this one for spares.

it isnt beyond saving but i wouldnt say it is worth saving. there are plenty of solid cars out there for sensible money. i would scrap the shell and start again
