I am bored so I thought I'd just let you know that I will be ugrading my front loudspeakers to some rather tasty new ones soon. All very discreetly installed. The amplifier is wonderful, the sub-woofer sublime but the standard speakers just fall down a touch on the strings (violens and cellos) and alot on the brass. Will cost an arm and a leg, but hey, I love my classical music more than new wheels and rubber, re-maps, turbochargers and other nerdy things. A very big ETTO.
And I know this will be of very little interest to all you young Turks. But I don't give a jot.
-
The morel of this story is if you have inferior OEM speakers unless there tunned and run at low levels there motors will run outside there linear range.

Aint that the truth!!!
You are a very clever young man, but you knew that all along.
BTW, the CD player on the RNS510 needs much more mid and high frequency attenuation. Otherwise, the sound can become unbearably bright, especially at higher volumes.
-
I'm with you asker
Nothing like a good classical aria played on decent audio
My favourite is still Bizet's Carmen (went to see it in Verona - awesome setting and performance)
I had Hertz 3 way components up front and Hertz coax speakers in the rear with a Hertz 10" sub and Audison amp playing in the old ED30 and it was just great.

Hurdy, it's nice to discover a fellow lover of the classics. A car journey to me is so much more than just listening to the turbo spooling or enjoying the nth degree of its braking or handling. I want to extend the joys of music at home during my car journeys. Good ICE, for me, elevates one's appreciation of the car itself. Oh, I simply adore Bizet's Carmen. So much passion and such stirring music. I'll listen to it tomorrow.
Great system in your Ed30. Are you going to replicate it in your new R?
-
Asker,
Could you ask your mate when he does yours to measure the available space,
depth, width of the hole, avaliable total depth, width of mounting flange space available and gap to the door panel please.
I would like to know if a Focal Be 6W3 midbass unit will fit in there without total reconstruction of the door and window channel guide.
Thanks.
G.

The head unit will be a newer one (probably still aftermarket), but I'm undecided as to whether to go with the VW Dynaudio option yet. Possibly I'll go aftermarket again as I now have a little more knowledge on how to fit and get the best from audio systems than I did.
The ONLY thing I miss about the Lexus is the 14 speaker Mark Levinson surround system - Awesome, and crystal clear too.

I've heard the Lexus system and it is truly amazing.
I think the main problem with mine has been not factory ordering the Dynaudio system. I was penny wise pound foolish.
I personally think an aftermarket head unit would also be better sounding than the RNS 510. It could not be any worse could it?
-
Asker, Stick a JBL MS8 on it and it will transform it

I will certainly do so. Should get this done in the next 2 weeks, hopefully.

Thanks Asker,
This is what the front ones hit

Maybe I should install video cameras in the car. I cannot always park near my house. Any suggestions?

First, I have to have the roof fixed. But you can have all the above and more. Now let's stay on topic or we'll get modded.

Stop throwing cash at the car and MOVE HOUSE FCS!pref one with a garage. I'd never own a decent car without a garage. 1st house I bought in 71 had a garage for my precious lotus 7. Every house I've owned has either had a garage OR I've built them ( on 2 occasions). Most those stolen cars are off driveways or roadside. Get you priorities right chaps.

Not sure that is true especially when your insurance is cheaper when you select street parking compared to driveway for "kept overnight"
Plus I've always had it in my head that if the car is in the garage the thieves can take literally hours messing about with the car undisturbed whereas if it was on the drive or in the street they would literally only have seconds.

Odd in that all my insurances have been reduced due to 'garaged' vehicle. Out of sight out of mind?
Of course if you live in town/city not always possible granted. The only car (lovely Cortina 1600E ) I had stolen was parked in street outside Wembley arena after a Pink Floyd gig. Found in bits on a Southall council estate. Always regret not fitting the Krooklock

Sorry I think you misread my text. Its cheaper parked on street compared to being on the drive over night. I don't know how it compares to being in a garage overnight.
The rest of my text was just my thoughts about thieves breaking in to your garage. It means they can go unseen for hours.

You're a glutton for punishment as you've already got a rattling hole in your roof.

Done!
Morels fitted to the front doors today. Simply amazing. They get better and better by the minute. Will require 40 hours to run in. So I've now spent £1500 (including VAT and labour) for the sub-woofer, the amplifier and the Morel Speakers. Worth every penny IMO. :smug:
Next the rear door speakers.
In for a penny, in for a pound!

The Morel Signatures were nearly £1700 for the front set! So I stayed with the chavvy ones.

The tweeter is the MT-12, but I am not sure of the mid/bass! I don't know whether it is the Dotech Ovation 4,5 or 6! The '4' is 4", the '5' is 5.25" and the '6' is 6.5".
Just checked the box. I have the Ovation 6 speakers.
-
Just to divert attention from the cat fights on other threads.
My Left mid/bass Morel is faulty as it can't take the power of bass drums from Mahler's Third Symphony. It cracks at volume level 17 but stops if I reduce the bass from the tone control.
Will be replaced soon.
For all of you who dislike me this will be music to your ears.
-
Just a minor update.
I'll be replacing my rear speakers with similar ones to the front ones on Monday, if Auto Audio can fit me in.
Not counting the cost of RNS 510, the sound system has cost me £2100. And all because I was too mean to spec Dynaudio and the RNS 510 sounds crap.
My advice: Order the excellent value for money Dynaudio when you spec your car.
-
I still think its a waste to do the rears unless you have a system using an algorithm like logic7 in operation but thats just my view, i would much rather spend the money on a good processor that would make far more of a difference.
-
Had the Morel Speakers fitted to the rear doors. Overall sound is much cleaner and I am very pleased with the results.
No more to be done to the sound system.
Bluefin re-map next week.

No need for a Bluefin, I am now running a Carbon Chiptuning ECU Mod  Still assesing it, first impressions are that it feels OEM but with bite, very smooth power delivery, no flat spots.
I will provide more comments to all in a few days when i've had a chance to drive it a bit more and for the ECU to do any adjustments.
Thanks to Nick & The Doc at Carbon Chiptuning for going the extra mile to get my issue sorted.
Jim

I'm just glad we got around the problem and sorry again for getting the wrong end of the stick
More fun tomorrow

Adrian, the sound system is mega amazing. I love it.
-
Well that's a good result for both of you
-
@Buck: When I get re-mapped next week, I'll be doubly happy.
-
Asker. Are you going with Docs remap or Bluefin?
-
Hi Adrian. I'll get Superchips to Bluefin me at work next week possibly on Thursday/Friday. The guy is based in Islington and I am parked in King's Cross. So just 1.5 miles apart. If I don't like it, he can take it back within a week. That's my intention for the present. But then there is also that difference between intention and execution.
