Yeah they're about £20. take off, put on.
-
You will have to take the driveshaft off first.

 really?

Ok cool cheers thought it was but just wanted conformation.
And yeah I gathered drive shaft would have to come off lol.
Easy job?

How would you remove the inner boot otherwise? can you get 2 piece kits?

Not to bad. You will probably need a puller to remove the driveshaft hub end, these are tricky on mk3's with plus suspension.
Be careful removing the inner cv joint, it is held on to the shaft with a circlip, it falls apart easily when removed.

Oh looks simple enuf in haynes manual.
But the bit that is ment say how to remove inner cv joint from driveshaft says no information avalable at time of writing the book.
How do I remove that?
-

Its a polo, but golf is the same.

The tricky part is getting the shaft out.
-
Yep, without the cv joint coming apart.

U mean the tricky bit is getting shaft out off inner cv joint or out of swvel hub asembly?
-
I found getting the driveshaft out of the hub the trickiest part.
-
Had a nightmare getting mine out of the hub to change the offside inner CV boot like yours !!
-
Ok so what new bits will be require when I do this? New gaskets or circlips needed?
Obviously a new boot and grease.
What els will I need?
-
You should get everything you need in a new boot kit.
-
Won't get new circlip tho if one breaks getting cv off shaft
-
Yes you should get a circlip as well in the kit.
-
Ok great so let me just confirm when I change my inner cv boot the cv joint I just take off old nackered boot. Unclip circlip and tap cv joint off the shaft.
Slide new boot over.
Cover in grease.
Push cv joint back onto shaft.
Put new circlip on then put both boot clips on.
Then driveshaft back on car.
Sound about?
-
Its all on the guide i posted.
-
I've done mine today, mines a 1.4 but should be similar
just free up the hub by removing either the bottom or top mount, undo the large axle nut and tap out the axle
then the inner side of the driveshaft is held on with 6 torx/spline type bolts
then once off the CV joint taps off, the inner one may have a circlip, i only needed to do the outer, clean it up, put new grease in, put new boot on and re install
-
Similar but on gti/vr6 models a hub puller can be needed to separate the driveshaft from the hub.
-
It is possible to do this with the driveshaft still connected to the hub, but very fiddly when putting the circlip on. (and the boot). Best to take the shaft right off. Agreed with the hub puller being needed, and get a good one that wont break .
-
Great cheers peeps. So I take it its best to go vw to get boot then?
Been looking on ebay for a hub puller but han only find 4 stud ones. 5 stud one are way more expensive.
May have a look and see if we have one at work.
