Title: Mk 1V not sure if I have a problem or not
Post by: SYFYHIFI on 03 June 2011, 14:11
Had my first GTI 1.8T about four weeks.
Its a beut and I love it.

Air con doesn't seem to be working probably needs a top up what do you guys recommend on the most cost effective way to get it so it puts out cold air again?

It has also ran a bit strange for a couple of days Sunday to Wednesday on and off.
When I started it had a whining noise that tailed off after a minute or so, or if I pulled away or bipped the accelerator. This only hapenned when cold.
Thursday and today the problem hasn't been there.

Also during the same period it appeared to be running a bit rough, slightly jerky as if miss firing and there was a loss of power on acceleration.

Seems to be running ok at present BUT I assume its an intermitent fault that wil return/get worse until its there all the time.

Any ideas what this may be and potential repair costs?

Cheers

For the aircon, get it re gassed  , around about £35 i think

The noise on start up could be the secondary air pump, or its could be coil pack failure,  their around £30 also i think

I just checked through the paperwork yesterday and mine was regassed at Kwikfit May 2010!

Does that signal that I have other problems with my Aircon or that Kwikfit doesn't do it properly?

Regarding Vagcom

I'm new to all of this I understand you can get the full blown software that you put on your laptop and a usb interface to connect to the car.

I have also seen on ebay small units similar to the one in the link that have the cable and a hand held unit that displays the codes.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VAG-Car-Diagnostic-Scanner-Fault-Code-reader-/160597725574?pt=UK_Diagnostic_Tools_Equipment&hash=item25645ed186

Are these any good? are the codes displayed reliable?

Both really, a specialist will be able to tell if and where the leak is and sort as required.
