Title: Service Schedule
Post by: GerryD on 03 June 2011, 09:00
Hi all
I was wondering if anyone could tell me what is the service schedule for a GTI on a time and distance?
The reason I ask, is that I went to book the Mrs's GTI in for its second service yesterday, with every intention of getting the £349 service plan for 2 services. According to the book, it is an intermediate service after 2 years (20000 miles) & an interval (inspection) service after 3 years (30000 miles). The rational for the £349 plan was that the 2nd service was £200 odd, and the 3rd one would be megabucks.

Imagine my surprise to be told that the service book was wrong and the 3rd service would be only an oil change, and the 4th service would be the main one.

Is this correct or should I be getting the service plan at a different dealer?

Gerry you can have which ever service interval suits you 10k or 12 months, 20k or 2 years which ever comes first. If your wife only does short trips then VW recommend the 10k/12 months service.

You can check when you service is due in the MFD menus under Service it will tell you time and distance until the next service. The sticker on the front page of the service schedule will tell you which service interval has been set. Look for QG0 or QG1 - 10k/12 months, QG2 - LongLife 20k/2 years this can be changed (not the sticker) by the dealer or someone with VCDS.

In order to get the full 3 services on the service plan you need to have it done each year.

If you paying £349 for the 3 year service plan then you've been done. I only paid £250 which as now increased to £299. Its quite good value while its under warranty?

I think it's the 40k (4th) service which is the big one.

Thanks for the replies guys.
Sorry I should have mentioned that it was being booked in for it's second service.
We bought the car at 9 months of age at 9000 miles, and it was serviced before we got it.
The previous owner did not have a service plan with VW, I checked with them.

Keith, the £349 plan is the one on VW's website and is only for 2 services.
So I suppose my main question is, is the third or fourth service the main one?

Well I suppose you could say the main one is 30k as they are supposed to change the brake fluid.

Yes VW do the extra service plan if you didn't opt for it when you bought your new car fixed-price-servicing-plan (http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/owners/offers/fixed-price-servicing-plan). When you have a new car you have 31 days to opt for the service plan?

Now there are two types of VW Service Plans. The basic one which I had for £250 and the 'Retailer' Service Plan (http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/owners/service-promise/mot-tests) where I'm told you get free MOTs for life.
